Re: LIPA QUESTION????
if you rarely use your a/c, that does seem high. I would call LIPA and ask them to re-read the meter. maybe they made a mistake

I use my dehumidifier and they said that could be it I really don't think dehumidifiers use up as much energy as an a/c... JMO

Re: LIPA QUESTION????
I find it so hard to compare my bill with others. I'm the only person that I know of who pays every 2 months instead of every month and most of my friends/family are on the "budget" billing so I really don't know if my bill is high or low. Since I moved into the house last October, my bill has been around $160 - $190 every 2 months. However I just got my latest bill and it's now $400 (I attribute that to the Air Conditioners that we had running constantly even during the day because our dog is at home and we wouldn't leave him without the AC> Plus they are ANCIENT ACs that are NOT evergy efficient and they don't even have an energy save button, they just keep running until you turn them off. OUCH!

Re: LIPA QUESTION????
Last month was $410. We had the ac running constantly. One in the bedroom the other in the dining room. We pay monthly and are not on a budget.
July was about $130 but we weren't using the main unit in the dining room that much.

Actually, a dehumidifier uses just about the same energy as an air conditioner. It's doing the same thing as an air conditioner really. If you frequently use the dehumidifier, it's like using the AC all the time.

Re: LIPA QUESTION????
Ours is normally anywhere between $275-375. For the two summer months with up to four room A/C's running at any given time (some days all four - all day) our bill was $704!

Re: LIPA QUESTION????
We are on budget and pay $92/month (this is with our $1 increase for this year). We have a small ranch with 2 AC's but we don't have them running 24/7 but we did run them the most this year than ever and it only went up $1.

Re: LIPA QUESTION????
i pay every 2 months and not on a budget billing cycle. 4 bdrm colonial w/ cac, whole house fan, attic fan, ceiling fans, 2 dehumidifiers, ig sprinklers and ig pool.
mine almost quadrupled since the last bill. this one was about $950. i called today and he said everyone was hit pretty hard due to increase use of cac, dehumidifiers, fans, ig sprinkers, and pools. said if i didn't have the funds now, i could wait until oct to pay.

Yeah - dehumidifiers are about the same amount of energy as an air conditioner. I just found that out recently and was shocked!

Re: LIPA QUESTION????
We are not on a budget plan. This past month (august bill) ours was $383 for the month. We do have CAC that has been running & it is a 2200 sq foot house.
In the winter months, we range anywhere from $80-95 depending on the month (ie, christmas lights & what not)

Re: LIPA QUESTION????
Winter was about $150/month. We are not on a budget. Summer was double. But we have CAC.
I was told that the most expensive things to run are: Dryer Refrigerator and CAC. I have two refrigerators and a very old dryer. But I have a gas range.
And we live in a ranch. Don't know the sq ft.

Re: LIPA QUESTION????
our bill was 750 and change for 62 days- AC running all day long, no biggie.
you should go out and look at your meter- when you put on the dehumdifier see if the meter is spinning fast- shut it off and look to compare- if it is moving- then yes it is sucking money out of your pocket. Is it an energy saver one?
