LIRR - brooklyn question

Does anyone take the LIRR to brooklyn and then transfer to the subway to get downtown?

How long is the subway ride from the station to the first stop in Manhattan?

many thanks! Chat Icon

Re: LIRR - brooklyn question

I sometimes take the LIRR from Long Beach to Brooklyn.

I then take the 2 or 3 to Wall St., which is the first stop in Manhattan on that line. There are four stops in Brooklyn before that. It is about 15-20 minutes.

You also have the option of the 4 or 5, but I don't take that so I don't know but I think the first top in Manhattan is Bowling Green. I think it would be about the same amount of time.

Hope this helps.

Re: LIRR - brooklyn question

I used to take it to Brooklyn sometimes to get the the East Village. I would take the 4 and then transfer at City hall to the 6.

I actually liked it better than going through Penn because it didn't seem as crazy to me. If you are going to city hall, or further downtown, it might actually take less time to go from Brooklyn.

When I lived on Long Island, I used to like to commute through Brooklyn to get downtown. There were some direct trains to Brooklyn on my line and it saved me time going through Brooklyn as opposed to going through Penn. It also saved me time on the way home because there were less people getting out of the parking lot!

It really is pretty much the same. Maybe a tad bit shorter from Brooklyn. I actually prefer going to/from Penn, but if I end up on the Flatbush-bound train, I will take it. Also if I can't make it to Penn at night for my train, I will go to Brooklyn because the train leave a few minutes later than the Penn one does (like last night I would have gotten the 6:39 from Penn but I left at 6:20 and I knew it was going to be very close to make it, so I went to Flatbush and got the 6:42)
