LIRR monthly ticket question

If I have a monthly ticket to one station- can I go to another station on a different line? Do I need to buy a new ticket?

Re: LIRR monthly ticket question

If it's in the same zone, no.

If the ticket is for the further zone, no.

If the ticket is for a closer zone, yes.

How do I find out the zone? My ticket is to Central Avenue. I need to go to Syosset or Hicksville.

Re: LIRR monthly ticket question

I think that is probably a different zone so you will need a step up. You can pay for that on the train. You can prob. get the zones online.

Re: LIRR monthly ticket question

What Eileen said is correct. Also, if you are travelling to a different zone, You can use the monthly and then buy a ticket from the destination zone on your monthly ticket to the zone of your ultimate destination.

So if you are going from Zone 1 to Zone 5 and your monthly is to Zone 4, use the monthly and buy a ticket for a station in Zone 4 to station in Zone 5

Re: LIRR monthly ticket question

It has to be within the same zone. For example you can travel between any zone 9 and city zone area with a zone 9 ticket. But if you want to go further out on the island, it will cost more.
