LIRR Fares Question

I bought two off peak round trip tickets online. Now I just realized that when I go into Penn, it's going to peak. So I know that I will have to pay the difference.

My question is, if I pay the difference on the train, are they going to charge me more being that I'm "on the train" already?

Would I have to pay the difference at the platform to avoid an addition fee to the peak price?

I believe its the same, but I think you can trade up your fares at a ticket window just to play on the safe side

Re: LIRR Fares Question

They only charge extra (and it's like $5 now, I think) if you buy the entire ticket on the train. I've never seen anyone on my train line charged more than $2.50 to upgrade their ticket.

Re: LIRR Fares Question

You only pay the "step up" fare if you already have the ticket - so no need to worry.

yep, no penalty, just the additional cost to upgrade to peak.

Wouldn't it be nice if they gave you money back when you use a peak ticket on off-peak times???
