LIRR Riders?

DH will soon become a rider on the Babylon line. He has to take the subway to work each day as well . Should I sign him up for the monthly mail & ride ticket with the $76 metro card option, it is a monthly card? The only other option is a $40 metro card but that won't cover the month.

Also, how does it work if you have transit checks?

Re: LIRR Riders?

From their site.....

a $20 purchase gives you $24 on your card. 12 trips for the price of 10.

So I think you get four rides free with the $40 purchase. So that is 24 rides. He needs to figure out if he is just going to use it Mon-Fri, because the $76 might be too much. I know I get it because I use it more than just 10 times a week. KWIM?

Re: LIRR Riders?

Personally I dont think the unlimited is a good deal unless you plan on using the subway on weekends and more than 2 rides a day.

My DH and I both get the $40 a month option. When I got the transit checks i would just enclose them in the envelope with a check for payment on the ticket.

I think mail n ride is the best thing around!! if they could only RUN the LIRR like they do the mail & ride program we would never be late!!

Re: LIRR Riders?

If you take the subway every day, and you assume about 20 work days a month, it comes to $1.90 per ride instead of $2.00. Not a huge savings, but it's a little.

Thanks ladies, I guess I will go with the $40 option. His transit check comes in the form of a Visa. Not sure how that will work Chat Icon

My DH gets the same thing. Can he opt to have the whole amt of his ticket taken out of his check.

for example...my DH gets the $110 (pretax thats allowed) and then he has the balance of $200 taken out of his check (after tax) then the whole thing is paid for on the Visa card.

Have you DH find out if he can do it.

Or you can call the Mail & Ride customer service, they are really very helpful.

Re: LIRR Riders?

The mail and ride option with metro card also gives you a % off on your LIRR ticket.
