List of Schools on Princeton Plan?
Does anyone know where I can find a list of school districts in Nassau County currently on the Princeton Plan structure?

Re: List of Schools on Princeton Plan?
Thanks. I am actually looking for a "master list." I tried googling, but no luck... I guess I can try to piece it together. I have these so far: Malverne East Williston Oyster Bay Island Trees Carle Place Levittown Bellmore Mineola
If anyone knows of others in Nassau County, please let me know. Thanks!

List of Schools on Princeton Plan?
Levittown is NOT a princeton plan district. Elementary is K-5, middle is 6-8 and HS is 9-12
East Williston is not either. They have a k-4 elementary, 5-7 middle school and an 8-12 high school.

Re: List of Schools on Princeton Plan?
Oyster Bay definitely is. There is one K-2 school, one 3-6 school and the Jr/Sr HS is from 7-12. We live in the district, but my children are in private school.

They are probably thinking of Island Trees, which is in Levittown, but a completly different school district. They have a K-1, 2-4, 5-8, 9-12 set up.
As far as East Williston goes, it is such a small district that there is only the three schools, that's it!! I can't see where they would get Princeton Plan district from. lol
Good Luck trying to figure it out !! Short of going on all the websites for the individual districts and doing your own research, I can't see how you could figure this all out. Would you mind me asking why you want to know?? I could list you a bunch of school districts that are NOT Princeton Plan, if that would help to narrow it down for you !!
Again, good luck!!

Re: List of Schools on Princeton Plan?
This is going to be time consuming, but I would check out the website of individual districts. Click on one of the elementary schools and see what grade it goes up to.
I can tell you that Wantagh, Hicksville, and East Meadow are NOT on the Princeton Plan.
Sorry that there's not an easier system for you!

It's grade clustering. Kids in districts with this structure switch schools every few years (for example, there is one school in the district for K-2nd, one for 3-5th, etc.).

Thanks! I am not a fan, and we are looking to re-locate within Nassau County. I want to cross these districts off this list to try to narrow things down a bit for us. I appreciate your help! If there are other districts you know of that are definitely not on this structure, I would love to know. I guess I will be doing it the hard way to figure out the rest! lol.

I saw the article you referenced. East Rockaway is where I grew up and I can tell you it will probably never go to the Princeton Plan. It would require busing as there is none now, etc. It was shot down last time.
As for Oyster Bay where I am now, it's a small school district with busing. While my kids go to private school, I've heard nothing but great things about the schools. I've never heard one complaint about the set up of the schools. Why is it that you are not a fan (just curious)?

IMO you should base your decision on the district as a whole as this can change at any time. Supposedly Island Trees saved about $1million when they switched to Princeton Plan in the 2009-2010 school year.
Princeton Plan one of three options a committee of residents in Wantagh investigated and presented to the Board of Ed as an option to save money and best serve our student population. The other 2 options are re-districting among our elementary schools to even out the population more or closing a school (which the Board has said they are not going to do). The Board has not made a decision on re-districting or Princeton Plan as of yet, the information was complied and presented to them in the 2010-2011 school year.

Not speaking for the OP, but when I was looking into it for our school board, I learned that some people feel like it's too much transition for young kids, some people don't like their kids not being in their "home" school (the one closest to their house). Some people feel like it's going to end up being more expensive as a lot more kids need to be bussed.
On the flip side, the educators on our committee felt that when you have all the primary grades (K-2) together the building staff can better focus on early reading & math skills. There are more opportunities for team teaching. In the intermediate grades (3-5) the teachers can more easily create lessons across subjects that are inter-related. We had 2 school psychologists on our committee who said that in these districts there is less bullying in middle & high school as the kids have been together since they were young.
After hearing about the savings Island Trees realized some residents on our committee felt like it can be a cost savings as you can even out class sizes among the elementary schools in the district and you usually can eliminate some teaching positions to save on salary & benefits.
For my district specifically (Wantagh) some people think that Princeton Plan is the only way we'll be able to move to full day Kindergarten.

For me with 3 children, dropping off and picking up at 3 different schools every day (before and after work) would stink. Transitioning to a new school every other year is a lot for a little one. Your neighbors child might go to a different school. For example my sons in 1st and the neighbor is 3rd. They would never be in the same school, never ride the bus together etc. As a teacher who works with self contained classes, It wouldnt be best, in my opinion, for those students to be moved from building to building. It takes time to really get to know the students strengths and needs and sometimes it takes years to know them. Supposedly the district would save money but if it was really that great why aren't most districts following the plan.
Im in Shoreham which follows a difficult plan to explain. I can say it stinks to drop off my one child at Pre school, another at the K1 building and another at our 2-5 building, so while its not the Princeton plan, I can honestly tell you dropping off 3 at 3 different places BEFORE you start your work day stinks.

I agree - I think a lot of districts are under pressure to save money and are considering it. I am in N. Bellmore, and we have 6 elementary schools. They were debating closing one, but because the one being considered for closing was a beloved school aand there was a lot of backlash, they also contemplated moving to the Princeton Plan (which Bellmore SD is on, as previously mentioned). They did ultimately opt to close the school (which just happens to be the one in my neighborhood, so now we'll have 5 elementary schools, but kids will stay in the same school for K-6).
When I moved into my neighborhood - the Old Britton Estates section of N. Bellmore - people RAVED about the Jacob Gunther school. That wasn't a deciding factor for us to buy the house -- we liked the house, the location, the area, and the school district as a whole. But if it was, I would be sorely disappointed because now that elementary school is closing 3.5 years after I moved in. And my son is 3 so he hasn't even started public school!
But I always advise my clients that school lines, esp. elementary school lines, are subject to change at any time (hence, why the districts don't usually publish the maps).
So I agree that, while the Princeton Plan may be a factor for the OP, it should not be the deciding factor. I would look more closely at the unchangeable aspects of the house... the lot size, layout, what neighborhood it's in, and the school district as a whole. (Especially if you don't have children in school yet and it will be a few years until they start.)
And since there is no "master" resource of Princeton Plan districts, I would start narrowing down areas you like as a whole, and then once you have a list of potential areas you'd consider, check the school district website to eliminate the current PP districts.
I do most of my work in Nassau, particularly south shore areas, so let me know if you have any questions!

Re: List of Schools on Princeton Plan?
honestly, parents hate it more than the kids. Parent are concerned with getting kids from multiple schools, etc. But it has a lot of positive for children, curriculum, and teachers.
