Living in an incorporated village is worth the taxes!!
I never could see the pluses other then we have our own police but here is another one!
If you don't take of your property the town will issue you a summons.
If you don't have the work done within 2 weeks the town will come in and do it and then add the bill to your taxes!!
The town is currently working on 4 houses in the village.
And my neighbor recvd a summons for his lawn and now hired a landscaper!

Not all incorp. villages have their own police dept. I grew up in one and we didn't have a PD, just "public safety"...aka Square Badges.

Again, not all inc. villages do that.
And there are some towns that aren't incorporated that do have private pickup, like Woodbury.

i just found out that my village does not allow parking from 3am to 6am on the street??? and your only allowed 3 exceptions per year if you call the police before 3am. what happens if you have guests staying over for a week???

I dont currently live in an incorp. village, but I grew up in one. When this situation happens, we just had to call the police station and let them know we were parking on the street at night- and it was not a problem!

We aren't allowed in the street either but we just call the police and let them know.

I think we may live in the same town b/c my town has the same rule. Typically, we just call and it is fine, but if you call all of the time, they get p.o'ed and tell you to get a permit. It is really for safety purposes b/c the cops drive around all night and if there is car in the street that they did not know about, they look around to see if it is an intruder. It also prevents accidents.

i live in an incorporated village and we don't have a police dept. i think one of the few benefits is that we don't have to pay for the library.

i don't know anyone who has to pay for the library, and i've lived in several different towns in suffolk (none of them in an incorporated village).

I live in Babylon Village and we don't have a our own police dept. We do have a village pool/beach which is great, docking and they pick my garbage up from teh side of the house. Plus our streets are always plowed and clean.
My parents live in Amityville and they have police. In fact they drive by the house every 2 hours.

It's primarily to prevent illegal apts in houses and to cut down on two family houses. To keep the town owner occupied.
For example, they have it in many western Nassau towns (Valley Stream) to cut down on apts in houses that would be so desirable considering the town's location to Queens.
