Re: Living in Suffolk & working in Nassau - How do you do it?
We live in Holbrook and my husband works in Great Neck. He leaves at 5:30 every morning and makes the trip in an hour. The trip home takes approximately 1 and 1/2 hours (more or less - according to traffic). He's been doing this for over 28 years. He loves living here and wouldn't have changed a thing.

I am facing the same problem right now. I live in Farmingdale work in Syosset and it takes me 15 minutes to get to work. I will be moving to W. Islip soon and will have to adjust to a 30-45 mins. commute.
I do that same commute and some days when traffic is very light it only takes me 20min.

I was gonna say W. Islip to Syosset won't take 45 minutes, more like 20-25.

I WISH my commute was only an hour. you get used to it, well at least I did. I take the train into manhattan. mine is 2-2.25 hours each way. I can't say much for driving. That would be horrible driving an hour or more each way. 45 min seems doable.

I live in Kings Park and work in Melville and sometimes I think that commute is horrible (just kidding).
I used to work in Mineola and I hated it. I worked 7-3:30 so I missed most of the commute. I could only imagine what it was like at 5.
Once I had children, I was very lucky that my job relocated. When you get the call that you have to pick up your children or you have an emergency all you want to do is get home quickly...so for me.....I PERSONALLY couldn't handle the long commute again.
My DH works in Manhattan and he doesn't mind the commute, however, he's on the train.

Re: Living in Suffolk & working in Nassau - How do you do it?
Thanks everyone! You all have very good comments (good or bad). It helps to hear how others handle it. We know that we would get more house for our money in Suffolk, but we are having a hard time deciding. We are just going to continue looking in Nassau and Suffolk and when we find "the house" then that is where we are going to live. It's not an easy decision to make, that is for sure. But we really want a house, so we will keep looking until we find the one. Thanks everyone!
