Looking for a new desktop computer
Has anyone recently bought one? I'm looking for any recommendations! We want a computer for basic stuff - word processsing/spreadsheets/photos.
ETA: I can't use a Mac because I do a lot of work from home and I don't think it would be compatible with what we use in my school.

Re: Looking for a new desktop computer
I'm really a big fan of Macs, my next desktop will be a mac. I think for other machines you need to just deicde what you need it for and what you need and then look at the customer service/tech support ratings bcause that will ultimately make the difference in your experience. PC's are all pretty much the same to me. Although we had a Dell and a Gateway and much better luck with the Gateway if that helps.

Definitely a Mac...loving the new iMac.
If you were to go with a PC...I'd go with an HP.

Re: Looking for a new desktop computer
I got a new iMac for Christmas and I LOVE it!!!
its compact....everything is built into the screen...and you can get a 20 inch or a 24 inch screen...they are a fantastic size! I also have a wireless keyboard and mouse so no wires make my desk look nice and neat!!

Are you looking for a monitor as well or just a tower?

Re: Looking for a new desktop computer
I hate Macs. I have a Dell, an IBM, and a Mac, and my favorite is the IBM (though it's a laptop--Thinkpad), then the Dell, and lastly the Mac. Some of my Mac issues may be with the graphic design programs I use for work.

Re: Looking for a new desktop computer
Hewlett Packard. My sister in law just bought a bundle package from Bestbuy for $680. It came with a 20" LCD monitor, PC, and a HP multi function printer.
She bought it online and had it delivered.

I've had my iMac for three years now and never had a single problem. And no error messages either! I love it.

The new Macs can run Windows BTW, but if you're not going to use the computer for much more than office and websurfing it might not be worth the investment.

Re: Looking for a new desktop computer
a basic computer (tower alone) will run you 300-400...
For 500, you can get everything you need from major companies like Dell and HP
If you want a gogod deal if, fm me and i'll research the best current deal...

We have an HP as well and LOVE it. THe only thing we did was get rid of the printer it came with and bought a canon all in one and found the quality of pics better than the HP printers i have had in the past. We got ours as a bundle in Best buy or circuit city for about 6 or 700

Re: Looking for a new desktop computer
I would go with a Mac. They make Microsoft Office for it if that's what you need to use. I love my Mac. I have never had a problem with it.
