Re: Looking for any success stories with Clomid/ovridel/iui
My advice would be to definitely go to an RE if you're going through clomid/iui. YOu need to be carefully monitored for egg production on those drugs.
everyone's case is different of course, and what works for one may not work for another which is why going to an RE is your best course of action. An RE is trained to get you pregnant - they know exactly what to look for and how to monitor you with much more detail than an OB does. You may get lucky, but i'd hate for you to waste your time on a protocol that isn't right for you. good luck!

Re: Looking for any success stories with Clomid/ovridel/iui
Thanks for the info - i had the day 3 testing, as well as a million other blood tests for clotting disorders and such and then had an HSG test - all came back ok - has anyone used their ob successfully? Im an older mom no soon to be 40 and he said that all my levels were still good so I was gonna try a few cycles there first (since this will cost alot less and thenI guess would then try a RE? I dont know I find myself worrying about too much so idk

Will ob monitor you? How often? IMO I would go to an RE who specializes in this. Clomid can only be used for a short time bc it affects your lining. You want to make sure you are being monitored properly while on it. Also what's the lab that will wash the sperm/the labs success rates? I put this out so you are aware. Personally, I feel I wasted my time in the beginning bc I did not see the right dr for me right away.

Re: Looking for any success stories with Clomid/ovridel/iui
Thanks for your info I do agree about Clomid causing lining issues- my OB/GYN has me trying (when I start next cycle) Clomid 3-7, then Estridial 8-12(to thiken lining (i think?) then he will be check for follie size and then HCG shot to trigger - iui-then prometrium until hcg test along with a baby asprin....I had gone through IUI with him 10 years ago (successfully) but I know since I am older now -my chances will be less -so I was going to ty a couple rounds there and then ask for a referral to a RE - my worry with the RE stories ive heard is that they can sometimes be discouraging with anything but using donor eggs and things like that....just because of age which scares me...

I'm glad to hear you'll be monitored and on the estridial! If you wanted to go to an RE, you could set up a few different consults and see what each doctor says. When I was switching practices, I made a consult mid cycle so I could start with the new Dr if I wanted to the next cycle or stay at the same place.

Do not use your ob. I wasted months going that route. Get your butt to an RE. Obs are made to help with pregnancy, RE's job is to get you pregnant.
Go to the infertility board. They can direct you to good drs.

Looking for any success stories with Clomid/ovridel/iui
I used my OB for my iuis with monitoring and it was the worst decision I ever made. The offices are not set up like a clinic. Scheduling is a nightmare because they only work the normal office hours and not extended hrs and days like a clinic. What happens if you ovulate or are ready for a trigger and the iui falls on a Sunday. Will your OB come into the office just for you???? With a RE they have the hours so its not an issue.
And if everything is fine and its just cause you are close to 40 doesn't mean you should jump to lots of drugs. My sis and I both had our first babies at close to or over 40. Age alone should never be a factor.

Re: Looking for any success stories with Clomid/ovridel/iui
Thanks for that....I def did not jump to the drugs - if anything im leary of taking them as I have never liked the idea of hormones being added to our bodies...I was only put on this regime afer trying since April - with no success I did ask my ob/gyn how it would work for an IUI if I didnt happen to ovulate on office hours - he said - he would meet us in the office - any day of the week ...(i know, i know we'll see ).I dont have coverage for any of this fertility stuff and he only charges us minimally...so this is really why I was going to use him first .....but it doesnt matter this cycle anyway bc - he doesnt want to proceed untill this annoying cyst I have developed goes away....major bummer. But ladies I do appreciate all the advice and DH and I will move on to RE if we have no luck with the OB/Gyn after 3 months Thanks! Baby dust to all

I also think your Ob is jumping the gun if you are only been trying since April 2013. If you have been trying since 2012 then ignore this.
Like I said age alone is not a reason to jump to anything other than straight .
I only know what you have told us here and if your OB found nothing wrong with you or your DH then I would try for at least 6 full cycles and then probably start.
I had my DS at 38 and am now 40 trying for #2. It took me 2 years to get pg with DS and they was with 2 failed IUIs with clomid, having unexplained fertility issues and was ready to start IVF when I got PG. Turns out I have endo and that was the probable issue but that was not found till my csection.

Re: Looking for any success stories with Clomid/ovridel/iui
I have endo too - which is why he suggested i go to IUI after 6 cycles but all my other tests came back good day 3 tests, etc...so i am still hoping it is possible....my cousin just welcomed another baby yesterday and holding these little babies makes me want to have one right now! (lol) The wishing and waiting is whats driving me crazy - (i know at 40 trying for 6 cycles is not that long) but I had 6 mc before my last child so i am on the rush side a i worry i could go through all this again....Again thanks forthe advice - I am going to give LI IVF a call after my next cycle for a consult as it ccant hurt to see the difference in RE office vrs just ob/gyn.
