looking for gift ideas for our nephew's 1st bday
We don't have kids yet, so we don't know what people usually give as gifts for children turning 1. We're trying to avoid getting him more toys since he just got a ton of them for Christmas. Does anyone have any good ideas of something that your kids were given for their 1st birthdays that was meaningful and/or that your child really loved? TIA!

DS's birthday is just before christmas...
one "unique" gift he got w hich will work only if they have space is the Step 2 all star sports climber...
Its really an outdoor toy but we set it up in his play room for now and will move it outside when its nicer out..

I got nephew a step 2 door.. He loves it! and my dd played with every time she was over, so had SIL buy her one for christmas.. at 16m shes still has a blast with it.
eta: edited I said i got DH.. i meant nephew..  Oh boy prego brain in full blast.

ok- i recieved this as a gift right after DS was born... It is a personalized story book- you can look at the company at www.iseeme.com
The books are printed in a quality like you would buy at any store and it is a reallly neat idea- i'm sure a child would LOVE that the book is all about him/her.

DS got a table and chairs from IKEA that he loved. A red wagon is a popular gift too.

LL Bean has the cutest personalized kids 'furniture' that I think is perfect for a 1st birthday. We bought my best friend's son a personalized adirondak chair (they had just moved into their first house) and he loves it so much they brought it in for the Winter because he's always sitting in it. When DS was born DH's aunt and uncle bought him a little desk / chair combo (personalized). We're still in an apartment and he's only 1 now so it's still packed away but that was a great idea too.

I ordered through Kohls online for nephew, my sil i think ordered through Step 2.
