Re: Looking for honest opinions and feedback...children's birthday parties - home or out?

Bry's first 2 Bdays were home.
This year (just this past weekend) we had it out and I was SO GLAD we did!
The place took care of everything.
He has more friends now and having 15 kids here (ages 2-5) would have been a bit much!

DD's bday is in May! Same will go for her. First 2 home and then maybe out. She has better chances of having really nice weather and outdoor parties.
Right now its up in the air, but, first 2, definitley will be here at home.

If my kids had spring or summer birthdays I'd def. have their parties in the yard.

My preference is for the home, but that said, we had DSs 2nd birthday outside our home, in a relatively inexpensive setting. There are a number of kids he plays with on a regular basis, and our house is small--I just couldn't picture 10-12 toddlers plus parents comfortable in our home. He also has a winter birthday, so outside is not an option.

But if our house was a little bigger, I would absolutely do this outside at home.

My main preference, esp. for very young children, is to not have too much going on, and also to have a small number of people. This is personal, and it's up to everyone how many to invite, but I felt like DS had fun at both his birthday parties with not such a big crowd.

I hear you - it's a lot more work at home than out. We are going to alternate -- one year family BBQ at our house, the following year "out" at a kids' place.

You have an amazing home for entertaining. But I can see how it would be a ton of work and you don't get to relax and enjoy the day.

I'm no help, am I?

Hence my dilemma. I can fit a large group in the house if need be but if it's nice out...the kids can have fun in the pool and yard. Chat Icon Chat Icon I am no further along in a decision!

I think we'll be having them at home for at least a while--I dont want to have to have two separate family/friends ones (only b/c of the effort involved!), and most of our family members dont have kids and wouldn't enjoy a kids-type place.

Ultimately I like having them at home...more relaxed and comfy for the kids...but a lot more work and cleanup. Still...I do prefer home.

I like having them out for my own kids beause it is less work but I like going to home parties because I feel the kids can relax and aren't rushed from activity to activity. This year, I had Tommy's out and Amanda's at home. I had more fun at Tommy's. I think the kids had more fun at Amanda's Chat Icon Plus you have a great yard Chat Icon

We have a small condo, so DD's parties have been out for the past two years and this year as well. Once we get into a house and hopefully have a basement, I would like to have them at home.
