looking for some advice
i have never taught in public school. i have been a shadow for a few students, but i have never taught a class. i am a special education teacher and all of my experience had been in private special ed schools or doing EI and CPSE work.
i get so close to the job, but b.c of my lack of experience, it never comes to fruition.
would public schools take someone who wanted to volunteer some time in the classroom? would do that if it meant i could get some hands on experience.
sorry this is so long, but after teaching for 13 years, the realization that i shoudl have tried a district sooner rather than later has set in.

Re: looking for some advice
I don't know that they would take you- only for legal reasons. What about trying for a leave replacement position? That's a great way to get into a district

Re: looking for some advice
A friend of mine got a job subbing in Wyandanch to see if she thought teaching was a career for her. (It was). I think the requirements for subbing are usually a bachelors so maybe that would work for you?

Re: looking for some advice
Definitely sub if you can, and do it for several districts. You get some teaching experience, and your name gets into multiple SDs.
Good luck!!

Re: looking for some advice
I went from 4 years of EI to a district so its not impossible. I started out in the city. Right now, everyone is looking for a job, so I think that is the problem - especially in elementary.
