Re: Looking to Rescue/Adopt Dog have ?...
I have read that getting a dog of the opposite sex is better and will cause less issues with your current dog. Don't know how true it is in real life, but I'd look into getting a female.
Try Petfinder.com- they have tons of dogs at shelters, rescues, etc....
Good luck!

Re: Looking to Rescue/Adopt Dog have ?...
Another Petfinder recco. Also if you find dogs of interest, do a search here for previous threads on the shelter, there have been a lot. And for breed-specific rescues, there is info here about that too.
We had a male and adopted a female and were told the same about mixing sexes. We already knew that our male dog was highly socialized to other males & females through playdates, meetups, and friend/family dogs that have been to our home. I would make very sure your male does not have any behavioral or training issues to work on. If he does, you should not add another dog to your home till it is resolved. Adding a 2nd dog was harder than I thought in the training department because they distract each other! Our male actually took a step back in training because of the new dog.
The nice thing about a female is they don't want to mark everywhere so walks are more about quality time together and exercise. Ours is getting her business done in less than two minutes which is great on crappy days!
A bit of adoption advice, don't feel pressured to adopt every dog, no matter what the circumstance. It's more important you take your time to make the right fit for your family, forever. We passed over no less than 8 dogs before getting ours and are very thankful we did.
Good luck in your search!!

Re: Looking to Rescue/Adopt Dog have ?...
Thanks for the advice. My dog is 12 yrs old, spent most of that time w/another dog-female. He is loyal, happy and has no behavior issues.
We are in no rush to expand our pet family, Im researching and checking Pet finder daily to see if there is a special pup that will work with our family. My kids have so much love for animals its really sweet. Would love to give them a dog to "grow" up with.
Thanks again
