Re: looking up four month milestones online....
My ped. recommended not using a walker so we didn't. We had the exercauser though so I thought that was enough!

Re: looking up four month milestones online....
I figure that a 4 month old's hips may not be developed enough for that kind of positioning and suspension for an extended period of time. I've heard that it is also not recommended to use an infant carrier prematurely. I would think that too much weight-bearing in that area too early is not a good idea.

yea i knew that four months would be too early but the way it was written it was like infant walkers in general are not safe and shouldnt be used i thought it was interesting bc i never heard of this

Re: looking up four month milestones online....
My ped said absolutely no walkers.
However, I think it's more for the safety of the children then developmental.

Re: looking up four month milestones online....
Two reasons I am aware of:
!) Injuries from walking into walls, falls down stairs, etc
2) I read in Consumer reports that since the child can't see their feet when they "walk", they feel the use of a walker interferes with motor function.

My DS used a walker but for the life of me I can't remember how old he was when we first started using it with him. He LOVED it! I would think that if you use one, just make sure DC has plenty of time where they can creep along the furniture so that they are practicing putting full weight on their legs and it encourages them to walk. I know with the walker, they have the tendancy to sit down and not put the weight on their legs as much... but they sure are fun! And with DS, it didn't stop him from walking, he was walking at 11 months.
Also, there is a major safety concern they are trying to avoid. A friend of ours had their DS go down the basement stairs in his walker because someone left the door open . He was OK, but he had to get stitches. Just like everything else, you have to supervise and I think there are some people who will unfortunately use the walker as a babysitter and that is when accidents happen.

Re: looking up four month milestones online....
I knew about the safety issue so thats why I never bothered with that. I do have an exersaucer but its at my ILs because we have no room for it.
