Looks like I will be a mommy on Friday!!!!!
We went to the OB today and the baby is now measuring at 9lbs5oz (god help me!!!!). I was scheduled to be induced next Wed. 9/24 if I didn't go into labor on my own before then BUT now with the baby measuring so big there a few concerns mainly because I have gestational diabetes. Babies born to moms with GD generally have broader shoulders so there is a good chance that due to that fact and based on the baby's size (along with the fact that I don't have a big pelvis at all) the baby would get lodged in the birth canal. Should that happen they would either have to push the baby back up the birth canal to get it out or alternatively, yank it out which would more than likely fracture the baby's shoulders in the process. Needless to say we did not want the baby to suffer and we want to do what's best for both me and the baby. Therefore they recommended that a C-section would probably be the best and safest thing to do.
We were disappointed because it's not really what we wanted and it's a little sad to think I won't even have the opportunity to get the baby out on my own but we want to do what's best and we don't think putting the baby under that much stress during delivery is the best thing. So........................by about 10:30am on Friday morning we should be parents!!!!!!!! We are going into the hospital at 8:30am and we have the C-section scheduled for 10am.
I cannot believe it!!! I have so many emotions about it right now.......nervous, scared, excited, happy. I just hope everything goes well!!! I cannot wait to meet this little person!!

I was disappointed too about having a section but in the end, it doesn't matter. Once they are here, the labor means nothing.
Best of luck and congratulations!!!!!! This is so exciting....hooray for September mommies!!!!

My DS was estimated at 9lb6oz about 1.5 weeks before my due date and doc put me in for a c-section the following day...Thank God he did, my DS weighed in at 9-12 and theres no way my frame would have delivered him any other way....As long as the baby get here safely ithats all that matters !!!Good Luck !!!

Congrats! I had the same issue! DS was measuring 9lb 4oz 2 days before his due date...I opted for the c-section he was born ON his due date at 9lb14oz, with like you said broad shoulders!
I cried for 2 days making the decision to have my section, but I believe it was the best choice for me and I still feel great about the decision!
Good luck and know that soon you will be holding your little one!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Its the best feeling in teh world!

I keep checking back to see if you had the baby yet....I can't believe they let you go this long, I thought Dr's like to induce GD moms a little before their due date because the baby is usually bigger...that way they can have a vaginal birth and not have to have a c-section.
Yes the c-section is a longer recovery but it isn't that bad. This recovery was much better than Hayley's (and that c-section wan't that bad of a recovery either). Make sure they give you colace daily so it will be easier for you to go to the bathroom (probably when you get home). You might wake up Saturday w/pain in your shoulders (like you slept wrong)...its GAS, as for hot pack and make sure they give you Gas X or something like that. TAKE THE PAIN MEDS!!!!

Thanks everyone for the replies, especially those that mentioned their C-sections and how everything turned out. I'm nervous but I'm sure once I am in the hospital I will be more excited. I am looking forward to being done with my pregnancy. I just worry about the recovery and all of that.
For those of you that had a scheduled C-section.............how did that affect your being able to breastfeed??? I want to BF but if you go in for an elective C-section does that mean I won't have any milk come in for a while?? I don't really know how that works. Anyone have any info?? TIA!!!
