Losing weight while TTC

I just started WW again this past Sunday, but I'm 8dpo, and I'm waiting to see if I get that BFP this month...

...I do have a weight issue, so I want to start losing some weight--but I also don't want to hurt my chances of maintaining a pregnancy.

Any thoughts?

Re: Losing weight while TTC

I think it is fine to be watching or even losing weight while TTC. I know people that continued on WW while PG. As long as you aren't doing anything in terms of fad diets...

I still excercise on a daily basis & will continue to when I do get my BFP....

I agree with the above poster.

I plan on maintaining my exercise regimen while pregnant.

WW is known to have a GREAT program for pregnant ladies. So I'm guessing being on it while TTC is just as good. As always excerise is ALWAYS a good thing whether your TTC'ing, PG or just enjoying life.

That gave me a laugh. OK LIGHT exercise. Nothing crazy!!! You dont want to overdo it. And you certainly dont want to start a vigorus "exercise regimen" when you do get pg..

Re: Losing weight while TTC

I just recently started running again, my Dr. has no issues with this, she is encouraging me (I also have weight to lose) I have heard that when you are PG you shouldn't let you HR get above 140, I haven't confirmed this with my Dr. yet, but it does sound reasonable.

I think if you start gradual, so you aren't totally heaving for air, that is fine. But if you are concerned, maybe give your DR. a call to see what he/she thinks.

Actually WW does not have a program for pregnant women. They tell you not to lose weight when you are pg. WW will not let you continue with thier program when you are pg. They have a great program for nursing mothers.

It is totally fine to try and lose weight now but once you are pg that wieght is yours until the baby comes. You really are not supposed to diet when you are pg.
Good Luck!

This is what I thought...

I don't believe WW will let you be on their program while being PG.

Yeah...I know that. I know I can't be on WW while PG, but I'm wondering if it's ok BEFORE. Technically, I could be PG right now and don't know it, but I'm wondering if it's ok for me to stay on it while waiting for the BFP.

Re: Losing weight while TTC

It is absolutely 100% OK to be on a healthy eating plan while TTC. I have about 75lbs more to lose to get down to my ideal healthy weight. I have discussed continuing my eating/exercise plans with my OB/GYN and she all for it.

She actually highly recommends WW. Even once you become PG, your OB/GYN may modify your WW plan for pregnancy. My OB told me she would like to keep my PG weight gain to about 15lbs, for a "normal" person they shoot for 25-35lbs

ETA: studies have shown that as little as a 5% weight reduction in overweight women actaully increases your chances of conception

Beth - It's totally okay to be on WW while TTC and even during the 2WW. I've been on WW since January, and continued excercising and doing the program while I was stimming for my IVF. I even managed to lose 5lbs while stimming which I know is great since most women gain weight. As you know, I did get pregnant, but as you also know, I am going to m/c this pregnancy any day, but my doctor assured me it had nothing to do with my losing weight. I was told to keep doing what I'm doing, and I'm hoping to drop another 10lbs before we do another IVF next month.

Keep doing what you're doing, it will only help, not hurt! Chat Icon

I have 2 friends that got pg in the process of losing weight and they both believe that it was the weight loss that made the difference.

FYI-I was in WW when I got pregnant previously. I told my leader and she said I could stay until I started to show and follow guidelines for nursing mothers(basically extra dairy)

Re: Losing weight while TTC

My doctor actually said that because I do gain weight sooooo easliy, in fact just gained 10 lbs, that I need to control my carb intake. So I started South beach again. I have a cousin that is a dietician, and she actually tells women that have Gestational diabetes to go on South beach Phases 2 & 3. So I really won't be changing too much from TTC to pregnancy.......

I just want to be pregnant alreadyChat Icon
