I'm still in shock over the elimination of our prof and regents. I've emailed the board and expressed my concerns. I really don't understand ehy we were the ones to get the ax. Is this not a global economy? How are we to compete with other nations? Just curious to hear what you guys think.

I am very upset!! I feel like we are always at the bottom of everyone's "to do" list. The kids always do our homework last, study for our tests halfheartedly, etc.
I understood that LOTE is not a class taken seriously by many parents or students, but now it is getting ridiculous! All within 2 years we lost the Prof. exam and now the Regents!!!
I can't stand the way every other subject is put above us! My district stopped celebrating National Foreign Language Week in favor of Go Green Week!! They completely removed our celebration off the calendar and don't even recognize a day...nothing!
I feel that having the ability to speak and understand another language is essential in today's job market. If we expect our students to compete internationally and succeed, let's stop setting them up for failure!

ITA word for word. My brother is having such a hard time finding a job. He said every position states Bilingual is a plus. Only makes sense to me. Not to mention learning a second language helps the kids score higher on the SAT. UGH! NYS is lowering standards. We're a mess.878

I 100% agree with both of you. Foreign language is a necessity in other industrial nations; in the United States it's a total joke. Even though our Regents is eliminated, passing a local exam and completing 2 years of LOTE is still a requirement for an Advanced Regents Diploma, so at least they didn't kick us in the a$$ completely. I wrote to my state representatives as well. It's hard not to get discouraged.

Seriously! I guess it's more typical American arrogance to expect that EVERYONE in the world should speak English. Ironically, I would never have gotten a good grasp of English grammar if not for my Spanish teachers in high school- they way they taught it in Spanish helped me so much.
None of those people know what they're doing.

It's completely a sad state that we are in. Crap we were in the middle of the speaking part of the test and what does my principal do?? He runs a fire drill. Last year during the speaking we got bumped from the library so they could do read tos for the students that were absent on one of the other assessments and honors by achievement portfolios evals. DISGUSTING!
We will never be viewed as a core subject because of the ignorance of this country. It's sad but it's a fact that after 15 yrs I try not to get myself too upset about anymore.
