Low Cost Spaying - in Suffolk
Anyone know a place to bring a stray for low cost spaying in Suffolk (pref eastern Suff)? Also if the cat has babies, how long should I wait till I get her spayed? I am going to ask my vet about this tomorrow when I see him also.
TIA!

Re: Low Cost Spaying - in Suffolk
I received this information from someone on this board:
Here are some great places in LI that can help. If you need something in the five boros, leKent Animal Shelter provides low cost spay/neuter services to the public. More than 3000 animals are spayed or neutered at Kent Animal Shelter's low cost spay/neuter clinic each year.
Please call Kent Animal Shelter at 631-727-7797 for more information. Ask about Kent's free rabies clinics!

Friends of Animals Spay/Neuter Hotline
Call the Friends of Animals Spay/Neuter Hotline, and they'll send you a list of participating veterinarians in your area and an order form for your low cost spay/neuter certificate. It's as simple as that!
FoA's system has helped people avoid the unnecessarily high costs of spaying and neutering of approximately 65,000 animals each year. The recommended age for spay/neutering is 2-6 months of age.
Female animals should be spayed before their first heat (estrus cycle.) They do not need to have a litter before spaying.
FoA certificates are not valid for a cat if the cat is to be declawed. Cats need their claws for protection and for their physical and mental well-being. Declawing is painful, cruel and psychologically damaging.

That is from me!!!
Please get the stray fixed asap. It is kitten season and adults and kittens as young as six months will breed at the drop of a pin.

If that cat has babies, the babies have to be at least six weeks(or weaned off their mom).
Look at the post above.

Thanks. I think they are 6 weeks, but I will wait a little longer. Better safe than sorry.
