Low Sperm Count/Morphology
DS has been tested twice for his count and the numbers were low and the doctor said the numbers were on the lower side too. ( i have to get the numbers from DH again) Anyhow the Dr explained that he could have surgery but there would be no guarantee that we would get pregnant and that it could take up to a year to see the results or not. So the Dr told him the two other options are insemination or IVF. We have no idea what we should do? We have a 2 year old son and conceived with no problems but we have been trying for another baby for over a year now.

The good thing is, you know you can get pg.
They will probably have you do a few inseminations which puts the spermies into the cervix and don't have far to swim, before going on to IVF.

Re: Low Sperm Count/Morphology
We are in the same boat. DH has a low count and low morphology. We did our first IUI last week and the count was still low after wash (only 2 million). He went to the urologist and it turns out he has varicocele. Like you said, it will take a long time to see if surgery would even work so for now we are continuing IUIs. Last I checked with the doctor we are doing 3 IUIs before moving onto IVF.
Like the pp said you can get pregant so that is a wonderful thing to know. It's just going to take a bit more time and effort this time around

Agree. A few IUIs might help, but then they'll move on to IVF, should that not work out. If you have IVF coverage, try not to waste too much time with the IUIs. With IVF, they will harvest your eggs and actually take a little spermie and inseminate each egg individually (ICSI) and then you don't have to worry about the sperm swimming at all. But again, that's only if you have coverage. Like Suzy said, if they do an IUI they put the sperm right at the base of the cervix so they can make it there in a shorter trek!
Best wishes to you!

I'm sorry to hijack but do you think they will be quick to move on? We do have coverage and I feel like 3 months of IUIs is a waste of time for us since his count is so low. I have been pretty numb about all of this lately so I honestly have no expectations for the next 3 months since I am just prepared for it all to fail. I am thinking of bringing up IVF with my doctor if this doesn't work. We are still paying $ in copays and meds and it all adds up.
