Low Thyroid... anyone else tested?
I just got results back from my RE and she said my TSH was 6.1, which is high. It has actually always been between 2.8 - 3.4. She said the likes pregnant women to be no higher than 2.5. Well, I started reading other message boards and found a thread of women who said they went so far as IVF, which failed, only to take high doses of sinthroid and got pregnant immediately. The RE said that I have an extremely high number of eggs (8.1), so I should be able to conceive naturally, however I should not start ttc again until my thyroid normalizes. Now, I am really thinking maybe this is why it's taking me awhile to conceive. I have to discuss this further with my own endocrinologist on Monday and see what she says. Just wanted to help others with my findings.

Re: Low Thyroid... anyone else tested?
I've had Hashimoto's since about 25 (that's when my doc finally figured it out). Ive been seeing an endochrinologist for yrs and have had my levels normal for yrs. I told my endo when I got pg and he has been monitoring me more closely and increased my dosage. I have heard thyroid issues can interfere with ttc but as long as your levels are within the normal range your thryoid shouldnt cause any probs ttc. Good luck and lots of

Re: Low Thyroid... anyone else tested?
I have thyroid issues and needed to have my levels come back normal before ttc again after mc. Luckily I didnt need any meds or treatment. But since we are ttc I have to keep going to get my levels checked every 6 weeks or so.

Re: Low Thyroid... anyone else tested?
That was the first thing my dr tested for because the women on my dad's side all have thyroid issues. My levels came back at 3.21, and he didn't seem like that was an issue for the IF issues

Re: Low Thyroid... anyone else tested?
i have hashimotos - autoimmune hypothyroid.
ive been treated since I was 16. my TSH ranges from 4-9 on average which is high and I had ZERO problems getting pregnant... first cycle with DS. Most of the time, your body self regulates better once you actually are pregnant

Re: Low Thyroid... anyone else tested?
maymam- ok this is interesting. I actually do not have hashimoto's. I have adrenal issues, which is making my TSH go up. My RE said I need to stop TTC until the level goes down because the baby could have a low IQ or I could miscarry. I need to talk to my regular endo tomorrow cause I really do not want to stop TTC this month. You obviously had healthy babies. I gotta figure this out once and for all!

i was never told that my high level of TSH could lead to any of those things. I have heard that hypothyroidism CAN cause infertility or fertility issues but never heard that it can have negative affects on a fetus.
my sister (identical twin) also has Hashimotos and her's is MUCH worse, im talking a TSH in the 200's which is basically unheard of. Her dosage of synthroid is like 3x what I take every day.
with her pregnancy, her levels also came down very close to the normal range and once she delivered, they sky rocketed again. Same thing with me. I probably could have gone off synthroid while I was pregnant.
I dont know if this is the norm but once we were both pregnant, our bodies took over and started doing what they were supposed to be doing all along.
With your TSH, I would NOT think it would cause issues conceiving. My TSH was higher and we conceived month #1 I hope this helps. DS is totally normal, no delays with anything. Do not let your doc discourage you.
ETA - she has not had a hard time conceiving either. Her first wasn't "planned" and her took maybe a month or two.
