low weight gain and appetite
I know this may sound weird to complain about but I don't feel like I'm gaining enough weight. At 28 weeks I have only gained about 15 pounds. I just don't have an increased appetite. I eat though! I'm not trying to do this, in fact, at this point I am trying to eat even when I'm not hungry just to pack on some pounds. Sooo many people keep telling me I don't "look pregnant enough" for how far along I am. I think they mean this as a compliment but it just makes me worry that something is wrong. I'm normally an average body type I guess and tall. My doctor hasn't showed any concern so I wasn't that worried until I started getting all these comments from people. So far everything has looked good with the baby. Anybody else go through this or just not have that typical pregnancy appetite?

Re: low weight gain and appetite
Thanks. I know this must be an obnoxious question for some people. Not my intention to be insensitive, I'm just truly concerned. I have my next appointment this week and will bring it up.

Re: low weight gain and appetite
I agree with the previous poster, if your doctor hasn't mentioned anything to you then I would not be concerned. I have not gained enough weight and he told me and even went as far as to tell me what steps will need to be taken next month if I'm still not gaining enough. Honestly, your doctor won't beat around the bush if he thinks there is an issue.
I really do understand the no appetite thing, I have some really strong food aversions paired with being nauseous almost 24/7 makes it difficult to eat much of anything.

Re: low weight gain and appetite
15lbs sounds fine considering the baby itself is going to add AT LEAST another 5lbs in the next 10 weeks. so you'll be right in the healthy range. i wouldnt be concerned - i would be thrilled!

Re: low weight gain and appetite
at my 21w appointment I was up 7 lbs, now at 24w I'm up a total of 10 lbs. My dr. said that is great and it's very healthy for me and the baby. I eat when I am hungry, which is all the time, I even throw in some junk food bc I loveeee fast food, potato chips, etc. but I also eat fruits and veggies all the time too. You're weight is prob all baby weight, I wouldn't be concerned if I were you unless your dr. mentions something.

Re: low weight gain and appetite
I'm 30 weeks and I've only gained 12 pounds. I am thrilled that it's not that much, but at the same time, there's an overwhelming sense of guilt that I haven't gained more. Just do what your body (and doctor) tells you, you're fine! But I totally understand where you are coming from!

Re: low weight gain and appetite
I only gained 18 pounds with my first pregnancy and I went till 39 weeks. DD was 7lbs and 10oz...and perfectly healthy. I am over weight....so I wasn't supposed to gain a lot of weight....I gained "baby weight" Im now pregnant with twins and at 26 weeks Im up 10 pounds as of my last appointment. I get a sono every two weeks and the babies are growing right on schedule. My Dr. is not worried about it at all as long as the babies are healthy and growing.

Re: low weight gain and appetite
People always have something to say whether you are to big or to small and its annoying and gets in our heads. I had people asking me.. "any day now?" when i was only 6 months ( turns out DS was 22.9 inches long so he made my belly come out far) bc i had a big belly and i used to worry that i was creating a monster and doing something wrong. as long as you and baby are healthy and Dr agrees thats all that matters. My friend only gained 12 pounds her whole pregnancy and baby and mommy are great.
Dont let other people get to you!!! Congrats

Re: low weight gain and appetite
I was like that with my second and in total only gained at most 25lbs. I ended up having a baby weighing 8lbs13oz.
I wouldn't worry about it.
This time I around, at my 20 week check up I was up 8 pounds so far.

Re: low weight gain and appetite
I only gained 12 lbs my whole pregnancy and I went full term. DS was born 7lbs 7oz and was 100% healthy. The only opinion I would worry about would be your OBs.

Re: low weight gain and appetite
15 lbs at 28 weeks doesn't sound abnormal in any way to me. I mean, I'm no expert or anything.
I don't know how small you were before you got pregnant, but it sounds like you'll be in the 20-40 range by the time your baby is born, which is "normal" so I wouldn't even concern yourself with what people say. Just tell them you're carrying really well and the baby is PERFECT but thank them for their concern.
I was always gaining about 9-10 lbs less than what week I was. So at 28 weeks, I'd gained 18 lbs. Right now at 36 weeks, I'm up 26 lbs. I was overweight when I got pregnant, though, but my doctor said I'm doing perfectly as far as weight gain goes. He expects me to gain between 30 and 35 total by the time the baby is born.
You'll probably just lose less when the baby comes out than some people do. No biggie!
Have a happy pregnancy!!!
