low weight percentile
hi, i am new to li families but maybe someone can give me some advice about my problem. my son is 4 months old and was born at 7 lbs 4 in. he is now 12lbs 7 in. the doctor said he is in the bottom 10th percentile for weight but she is not worried because he is increasing his weight and has remained in the same percentile since birth. he will only eat 4 ounces every 3 hours and is on zantac and alimentum formula for his acid reflux. would you worry with that percentile?

Re: low weight percentile
I would not worry. He is eating and gaining. He is getting his nutrition, it just is more work for you feeding him every three hours.

Re: low weight percentile
If the doctor isn't worried then neither should you be... He'll be fine.
My nephew, who is 1, is in the low percentile for his weight. He's very low and the doctor is not concerned. He was born a preemie but however he has remained a skinny kid. He eats a lot and is still skinny! He weighs 19lbs. But he's healthy and very active!

Re: low weight percentile
Don't worry. As long as he is following his curve and not going up and down like crazy, he's fine. DD has been on the 10th percentile since birth and is almost 8 months old. She isn't a big eater either and is on Zantac and Nutramigen. She actually dropped to the 5th percentile this month but she had surgery in December and she'll probably go back up to the big 10th soon Try not to worry even though it is hard not to.

Re: low weight percentile
First of all Welcome!
I know how you feel... DD was 7lbs. when she was born and gained very little weight...always in 10th percentile also....
It used to drive me insane that she was so small...She's now almost 2years old..BDay is 2/22 and she's 23 1/2 lbs and is still a peanut.
As long as he stays on the curve and constantly gains he'll be fine!

Re: low weight percentile
Ignore the precentiles in my opinion. It is all about whether your child is following his own growth rate and is showing consistent gain. I've got a 2 year old that iss 24 pounds. He fell off the weight charts a long time ago. He is perfectly healthy, eats a ton, and was just blessed with a healthy metabolism.

Re: low weight percentile
My dr. doesn't even bother talking percentiles because he feels that it's a load of crap. Every baby is different and as along as they're eating, growing and meeting milestones, there's no need to worry We had NO idea that Ava was thin for her size until we went to a pediatric GI who told us that she was in the bottom 5th percentile for weight, but in the 90th for height. Well, she's tall and lean, what do you expect? So, I wouldn't worry!
