I was just reading about this. I wonder what they are going to do with the site now. They started the foundation and some walls already.

I'm just shocked. They would have been a big employer for the Huntington area so that part is awful.

Re: Lowe's at the old Huntington Townhouse
(11/02/11) HUNTINGTON STATION - Huntington Station is reeling tonight from a decision by Lowe's to pull the plug on a plan to turn a local landmark into a home improvement store.
Lowe's bought the property that once housed the Huntington Townhouse in 2007 for $35 million to build a massive store and garden center, which would have created more than 1,000 jobs.
However, the retailer said in a statement that it recently announced the closing of 20 underperforming stores and the discontinuation of several planned projects, among them the one in Huntington Station.
Local business owners say they were hoping the new Lowe's store would bring more shoppers to the area.
Civic leader Ron Scudder is also concerned that the stretch of Jericho Turnpike where the store was supposed to be built will remain vacant for a long time to come.
A Lowe's spokesperson says plans to build a store in Riverhead are still on track, but the fate of a Commack project is uncertain.

I am really shocked, my brother works for them. I'll have to find out the scoop - the Riverhead one looks almost ready. I bet home depot is happy.

I have been trying to get on Target's site all morning to email them about this but their site is down. Great minds think alike! I hope more people request this. I think it would be a great location for it.
