Lowes or Home Depot for renovations?
Sorry for blowing up the board with all my questions lately...
We're going to need to do some work on the house we're buying. Has anyone used Lowes or HD? Usually I prefer to use a local guy, but for these jobs, we'd like to finance it if possible. What was you experience with Lowes/HD?
Thanks in advance!

I have used both for smaller jobs but I think Lowes is better. I have a home depot closer and have used them for some jobs and always end up slightly regretting it. The jobs I have had done from Lowes are always great.

Re: Lowes or Home Depot for renovations?
Neither HD nor Lowes actual do the renovations. They subcontract it out to local providers. The benefits of going to a big-box store, is that you know that HD isn't going to run off with your money, they supposedly run checks on all of the companies they subcontract with. However, your experience with HD or Lowes may be very different than other peoples' experience, since everyone may have had a different subcontractor doing the actual work.

My neighbor did her kitchen the same time as me with Home Depot. Hers still isn't done and she has hired a lawyer due to the botched work. Supposedly hd doesn't pay their contractors high. That's my only experiance with them so I'd be nervous !

home depot has been good for installations in the past for us- rugs, doors, etc. however, we have had MAJOR issues in the last year to 2 years with things we've ordered and deliveries- washers/ dryers and especially floors (2 months to get 3 boxes, total mess and they basically told us "too bad"). I used lowes in the end after all the dryer issues and they were much better. i got an estimate for some carpeting from them but havent used yet. i think it also depends what area you are in. (different contractors)

We used HD to install a storm door and we had no issues. We also had HD give us an estimate on replacing our front door and the same subcontractor came out and was such an arrogant ahole and didn't answer any of the questions we had, we decided against using them. HD was not helpful at all with answering our questions either because they are no the ones coming out to the home. Not sure what type of work you are looking to do, but maybe check out some other contractors that may offer financing.

Neither. I've heard too many nightmare stories. Many companies that do large jobs offer financing.

i agree! i learned after thousands of dollars spent between the two that they are not the best.
even their products are not good. we bought anderson windows from home depot and they are not the same quality as windows directly from anderson. they make windows just for them which we are not happy with at all!!
i will never make a large purchase or 'hire' them to do another thing on my house. you get what you pay for. spend the extra money and get a good job
