Lunch break question

I notice a lot of people here do shopping on their lunch breaks. A few questions...

Are the stores you go to like 5 mins away or very close?

Do you just skip eating totally or do you grab something quick?

How long are your lunch breaks?

I am just curious because here in the lab I just eat at my computer and couldn't imagine having enough time to go shopping. Maybe to run a quick errand, but not to buy clothes or shoes. Maybe if the store was next door...

When I worked in the city, I used to run out and shop on my lunch break and if it took up the whole break, I would just eat at my desk as I did work

Re: Lunch break question

I figure it like this....20 mins to get to a store at a max....20 mins of being in the store and 20 minutes to get back to work. Sometimes I get more done in a lunch hour when I am under pressure to get back to work than I would get done taking my time!

If I am hungry afterwards I may grab something on the way back or in the cafeteria at work. Chat Icon

Re: Lunch break question

When I worked in Manhattan, I'd go shopping on my lunch break (when I had $$ to spare). You'd be surprised what you can accomplish when everyone is on the same rushed schedule as you. I could go to the Gap, try on and buy some jeans, order pizza and sometimes eat it at the pizzeria or sometimes bring it back to my desk with time to spare. It's just fast-paced in midtown. Anyway, that's how I managed.

Re: Lunch break question

I work about a 5 min drive away from Target, so I pick up a lot of the necessities during lunch. I either eat at my desk before or after I go out. I work pretty close to a large mall too, but when I go I only have time to go to one or two stores, and don't really have time to shop there thoroughly or try on clothes. My lunch is very loose though--so long as I get my work done, all is good, so many days I take no lunch, and others I take a longer lunch.

Lucky non teachers! A 42 minute lunch period just does not lend itself to going out to eat/shopping Chat Icon

Re: Lunch break question

I get an hour for Lunch....and I'm 5 minutes from Riverhead Tanger Outlet.

I can power shop like its my job and I still have time to pick something up and eat it!

sadly, i just found out that my office is moving to Hampton Bays.....that is surely going to put a huge damper on my shopping. My husband is delighted!

the stores i go to are nearby and if i shop over lunch, i grab something real quick on the way back and eat at my desk. My lunch break is an hour and I keep a close eye on my watch....time flies when you're shopping!!

Re: Lunch break question

I have a 1 hour lunch break and most days I take longer. I always come in a 1/2 hour early though. I never asked, no one ever says anything so I'm ok about it.
I usually eat at my desk after my break while working. On my breaks I either go home and take a nap, go home and work out or go shopping.

ETA: Today was crazy though... 20 minute break and I worked from 8:30 to 7:00
