Lunch Ideas (Packed for School)?

Could you please share suggestions for packed lunches I can send with DS to his preschool? He has been in daycare up till now, and they provided the lunch there. He's a picky eater to boot, though this may be a good way to get him to try some other things. Sandwiches he doesn't like at all, though he will eat a piece of bread with peanut butter (but I can't send that).

Also, how long do thermoses keep hot food warm (roughly)? Thanks!

I'm in the same boat. DD always ate at daycare and now I have to pack lunch. They won't refrigerate anything or heat anything up and she doesn't eat sandwiches. Chat Icon I have a thermos that does a good job at keeping things warm and cold, so I may pack chicken and or pasta.. I need more ideas too!

I teach 1st grade and many of my students bring:
pasta of some sort
bagels with cream cheese or butter
cold cut roll ups
cheese and crackers
yogurt
hummus and carrots
fresh fruit
jelly/cream cheese sandwich

Also, if you can't send peanut butter, sunflower seed butter is an awesome substitute (Trader Joe's). I'm allergic to pb and LOVE this. Kids may not even tell the difference.

I am in love with the fruit purée pouches. You can freeze them and they defrost by lunch time. Revolution foods makes cool flavirs but trader joes has done too. Revolution food also makes sandwich sammys like pbj, banana chocolate yogurt, and some other yummy flavors. They are similar to cereal bars but they are all organic.

Re: Lunch Ideas (Packed for School)?

My DS has a very limited variety of things he eats, so I rotate:

pizza (I send a slice of leftover pizzaria pizza)
pasta - ziti, tortellini or ravioli
macaroni & cheese
grilled cheese
cream chees sandwich

I usually put in fruit cups and applesauce for snacks, along with other snacks.

To keep the food warm, I put boiling water in the thermos for about 5 minutes, then dump it out, dry it out if necessary and put the hot food in.

Do you buy the sammy's from Trader Joes? I'd like to try them for DD.

The sammys I found in target, but not all targets have them. I get them in Hicksville.

I have never seen these fruit pouches--does anyone know if Whole Foods carries them? We don't have a Trader Joes in our neck of the woods.

Not sure I can take the sunflower butter either, but I can check. We were asked to not pack nuts or nut products, though this is a seed...hmmm, we'll see. But this may work.

Thanks for the replies! A bunch of these things should work.

Thanks for the thermos tip! I just feel clueless with packed lunches--when I was a kid, I could swear I had deli sandwiches or tuna packed in a paper bag, and somehow, it didn't go bad!
