Re: peanut free school.. ideas for lunch?
Ugh, we went through this with my son a few years ago... caused a lot of drama, but that's another story.
I couldn't afford cold cuts every day, but that's an option for some people. We did cream cheese and jelly sandwiches a lot, yogurt, and cheese sandwiches.

How about hummus with bread or crackers? Can you microwave something? If so, pasta with sauce is a good one, ravioli, etc.

Re: peanut free school.. ideas for lunch?
In my sons school (public) they have a peanut free table in the cafeteria. The PTA and board of Ed did not feel it was "fair" to the children without allergies, or to the families, because lets face it, peanut butter is cheap! There are far more children without allergies than with them.
Any chance you can attend a meeting and see about instilling a peanut free section instead of banning it altogether?

Re: peanut free school.. ideas for lunch?
Similar to what PPs have said, I send in sandwiches with hummus, baba ghanoush, or cream cheese and jelly. Other times, I've sent in pasta with meat sauce.

Re: peanut free school.. ideas for lunch?
they have a table for students who bring IN Peanut butter... so those parents who can't afford anything else has to have their children sit at a table by themselves or with others who bring in Peanut butter... (which by the way i think is ridiculous!!!!)

Tuna? I just didn't really like cold cuts a lot, so besides peanut butter, I had a lot of tuna sandwhiches as a kid. There was never a problem with mayo spoiling, and that was before insulated bags.

Trader Joes makes Sunflower Seed Butter -- it is great on sandwiches (just like peanut butter).

Pasta & Sauce Cheese Sandwiches Thermos of soup
When I was a kid I LIVED on PB&J. As an adult, I keep a jar of PB in my office fridge, so I don't know what I would do. Peanut free environments are hard!

How about Sunflower butter or Soynut butter as a peanut butter substitute?
