Lupus Diagnosis
Got some bad news today. After an initial blood test that showed a positive test for lupus, I went to see a specialist who ran more blood tests along with x-rays (my joints ache). To make a long story short, I am still testing positive for lupus. I have a follow-up appt. next week, but any info people could share is truly welcome.
I feel like my life is such a soap opera since DS was born--first my thyroid levels were low, then this, next I need a nuclear scan of my thyroid because I have a nodule on it--I'm a mess.
Thanks for any information!

Re: Lupus Diagnosis
I so sorry, I have actually had 2 screenings for lupus, my mom has it, and I was worried that I could possible have it. During all the testing, it turns out I have a thyroid disorder (Hashimoto's) which is actually an autoimmunine disease which could be common in lupus patients. Anyway my mom was diagnosed 18 years ago, her first symptoms were large welts on her chest/arms when she went in the sun and minor joint pain. She's not on any meds for it, but she has to stay out of the sun and just uses advil for the joint pain, otherwise you would know she has it.

Re: Lupus Diagnosis
Thanks for the well wishes!
It's good to hear stories about people with lupus who do pretty well. The one person I knew who had this was very debilitated--I think it was attacking her heart, she needed many surgeries, and she had to leave work and go on disability. So of course when I hear I have this, I thought of her.
So far, my main problem is aches in my joints and they are not too bad. They also come and go so it's not like I'm in pain every day. I want to ask the doctor on my follow-up visit next week if my thyroid problems are related to lupus also.
Thanks again!

Re: Lupus Diagnosis
My grandmother had lupus. She lived a full life even with the disease. She had to make sure she stayed out of the sun.

Re: Lupus Diagnosis
My MIL has it and it was under control for about 10 years but due to A LOT of stress it has acted up again. My best advice is to try and let things roll off your back and not worry about things.
I am sorry for your diagnosis also
