Lyme? - Woo Hoo! No Lyme! Update

So this past weekend, I found 2 ticks on Joseph.

My girlfriend made a big to-do about them being spiders. She claims to have counted the legs on this tiny, tiny bug I picked off Joseph & that it had 8 legs. I was checking my kids (& hers when she wasn't looking) all weekend. She continued to harp on the fact that they were spiders and that I was being paranoid.

Tuesday am I get a text message that her dd has a tick - but it wasn't like the spiders that were on Joseph.Chat Icon

I do a search on deer ticks on line. The bugs I pulled off Joseph are deer ticks in the nymph stage. When I pulled them off, they were slightly stuck to his skin which is what made me think they were ticks in the first place.

Tonight I noticed he has a rash (which could be sunburn) near his collarbone. It's red all around with a white center. I've looked up the bull's eye rash & it's a toss up.

Tomorrow afternoon, he's off to the pediatrician to make sure it's sunburn.

the tick must be attatched for more than 24 hrs, is the rash at the site where the tick was pulled off? Did you save the tick? I hope it is nothingChat Icon Chat Icon

Never doubt emilain. That's exactly what the doctor said. The tick needs to be engorged. He said it's sunburn!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Barb, make sure you take a picture of the "rash".. Gavin (my 5 year old ) had the same thing accompanied by a stiff neck in the same place.. it lasted 2 days(of course over the holiday weekend )and now it's gone. i thought it was a spider bite.. now i'm wondering...

Re: Lyme?

It sounds like the type of tick bite that can cause Lyme, but it doesnt mean he will get it. I had the same mark when I was a teenager. I had to take a sh!tload of penicillin (hopefully Joseph isn't allergic) - like, 3 horsepills a day for 2 mts just in case... I never had a problem... my grandmother has a house in Shelter Island, which is deer central, so tick bites are inevitable....

Good luck - keep us posted! Chat Icon

Re: Lyme?

My brother got bit by a tick as a child- we never found the tick or saw a rash...

He started complaing of joint pain- and at night started peeing on the floor (he couldnt walk to the bathroom at night- because his legs were stiff)

He was tested and has lymes...

Truthfully- I dont care what the rash looks like- I would have them run the blood work...it cant hurt

Like I said- with my brother- as far as we know there was never a "rash"

I most certainly am not trying to scare anyone... just IMO- I would get the blood work regardless of what the Dr. says!!!

I know Joseph will be just fine!

I'm not freaked out. He is itching it so I'm not sure how itchy a lyme rash is.

I understand what you were all trying to do. I'm definitely getting it checked out. I've seen the devastating effects of undiagnosed lyme.

I appreciate everyone's advice/comments/prayers.

When i got bit & ended up with lyme disease it never itched. I got the rash by thenext morning. Does your peds office do bloodwork? I would try to make an appt for bloodwork and have his titus (sp??) checked. My dr didnt think mine was the bullseye rash but after the blood work it was

better safe than sorry
btw---i was 16
