Maclaren Techno vs City Mini
Hi everyone,
I have finally narrowed my lightweight stroller search down to the maclaren techno xt and the city mini. Any opinions on which one is better? Does the Maclaren allow you to buy a snack tray or belly bar? I don't see one when I search, which is what is making my lean towards the city mini. DD likes to sit up and look around. Im not sure how happy she would be in the shoulder straps. Right now, in my chicco cortina, I just buckle her at the waist and she sits up and looks around.
Any thoughts would help alot.
Thanks, Kate

Re: Maclaren Techno vs City Mini
I have the Maclaren techno and was at BRU the other day and put DS in the City Mini double. Not sure if the regular City Mini is different, but at 33 months he did NOT fit in it at all. In the Maclaren he has tons of room to grow. So if you anticipate having a tall/big toddler I'd go with the Maclaren. HTH!!

Re: Maclaren Techno vs City Mini
I have the Maclaren techno and I don't like it for me. It's fine when we use it just to run in somewhere but there is no bar on the back for me to put my phone and keys or my bottle of water. I have the thing you buy extra on the back to put 2 drinks and it has a pouch but it doesn't hold the drinks at all.

Re: Maclaren Techno vs City Mini
I have both (except the city mini I have is the double). I like them for different reasons. I love love love the shades on the city mini. I find the shade on the Maclaren to be pretty useless.
I love that you can steer the city mini with one hand while talking on the phone or holding a drink in the other.
I like that the Maclaren folds really really small, and it just seems sturdier. However, my DH cannot figure out how to fold the Maclaren although I have shown him numerous times. The back of the Mac is much more upright. My 2 DS are always sort of pulling themselves forward in the City Mini although it is MUCH better in the 2011 version.
I don't think you can attach a tray to the Maclaren but I have a belly bar and tray on my City Mini that is a godsend.
If I had to pick one, it would definitely be the City Mini, but that IMO. They are good for different reasons!
eta: The Maclaren is also much more "tippy" than the city mini. I get so frustrated shopping with it because the second my DS comes out of it the thing tips back from just the weight of my diaper bag.

Re: Maclaren Techno vs City Mini
I think it depends on how you are going to use it. I have a BOB for walks/running and wanted just a lightweight easy stroller for the mall/errands/travel etc. so went with the Maclaren Techno. I do wish the Maclaren had a belly bar but my DD has never had that or a tray so I don't forsee an issue.

I agree with all of this. I the city mini single. Loved that stroller. We got it a few years ago, and the only reason why we got the Maclaren Techno was b/c DS couldn't sit up all the way in the city mini and look out.
I think the Maclaren Techno is a pain sometimes. I miss using the city mini. It does tip over a LOT more than the mini, even with just a light weight diaper bag hanging from the straps.
The new city minis are supposed to sit more upright. If you do decide on that brand, just make sure it's a 2011 model. If you find it on clearance, it's probably the older model.

Re: Maclaren Techno vs City Mini
Thanks everyone... Im leaning towards the city mini... the 2011 one added straps that make the seat almost all the way upright. Im just going to take a ride to BRU and put DD in it to make sure.

The 2011 version fixed this problem by adding straps to make the seat sit up straighter.

Re: Maclaren Techno vs City Mini
I have the new City Mini and love it. Here are the highlights for me:
- One handed pushing and steering (comes in SUPER handy when you're shopping, talking on the phone, drinking something, etc)
- Option of having a belly bar or snack tray (we have the belly bar and DS loves it)
- The parent console holds a big drink, plus has 2 pouches with covers to put your phone, wallet, keys, etc
- Reclines all the way for when DS falls asleep when out (we used it in Disney two weeks ago)
- Shade is HUGE. I honestly haven't seen a bigger canopy on a stroller. Comes in super handy with the sun
- Sits up pretty straight now that the 2011 version has new straps
