Re: Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade
We used to go every year as well. But I stopped going during college. There is nothing like being there! Watching it on TV is SOOO boring and cheesy.
Where do you guys stand? Every year we would stand under the Ed Sullivan Theatre (David Letterman's theatre)

Re: Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade
when I was younger I use to go to my neighbor's office window. then we would find an open spot in the 40's.
The last few years we were able to scord grandstand seats. Now DH is spoiled by that. The only way he is going this year is if I get tickets. But I will leave him at home
Some mornings it is so freakin cold. 3 years ago we were freezing. but rain is the worse.

We always stand outside Macys but on the side..the last block of the parade...the announcers are over there and they play christmas music before it starts...AWESOME!

I may be alone in this...but I find watching parades on TV pretty boring. If you are there it's more fun though.

I wholeheartedly agree.. you really cannot get ANYTHING out of the macy's parade on TV.. I've only went 1x , and it was just awesome in person. ON TV, its very BLAHHH

I don't think I could sit through it on TV.
I think I like going so much because Thanksgiving is such a long day. With a ton of people. Getting out breaks up my day.

Re: Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade
I love how you make friends with the people around you. You hear all about their thanksgiving dinner plans and most times, they are from all over. We have had the best times with these people. And then when we got home, dinner would go on and you would be all nice and toasty and tired...made dinner that much better!

Re: Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade
Its true. The Thanksgiving crowd is the nicest. Years ago I use to take my little sisters, it wasn't any pushing or shoving, everyone just agreed to let all the kids sit in the front. Everyone is helpful and nice.

Re: Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade
I remember one year, my little brother was a year old and it was snowing. We met this family from Idaho and we made such good friends with them that when the sesame street float came down, they were all yelling "Shawn, shawn look..its big bird" They knew thats what he was there for! LOL It was so cute..it was actually sad to see them walk away when it was over.

I can't contain myself when Maria and Bob go by on the Sesame St float. It takes me back immediately.

Re: Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade
I think that had to be the craziest year. I worked sooooo hard on my bangs the night before to get them perfect. And my brother kept opening up the ferry doors on our way into the city and I was flipping out. all for the 5 seconds that I saw them pass by.

Re: Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade
the We Sing crowd is cute. I always feel bad for the Cheerleaders who come from TX, you know they have never felt cold like that before.
Are you a huge Miracle on 34th fan? you have to be.
yeah they use to get great people. or maybe I am just getting older. How many times can you see Joey Lawrence and his brothers sing? One year it was 98 degrees and Charlotte Church. It was raining that year. That had to be the worst celeb year. I guess they don't come out in the rain
