Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade
Has anyone been? Is it worth getting up at 5AM on my day off?
When I'm at home, I watch about 10 minutes of it on TV.. I am thinking maybe it's more exciting in person?

I went there when i was little. I was very cool going to see it in person then on tv. I would not say it is a every year thing to do. But it is very nice to see in person.

Re: Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade
I've been, I used to watch it up in the early part of the route, this way I could take an 11:00am train home. You see all the floats and balloons, the only thing you miss is not all of the celebrities do the entire route.
It was always a lot of fun.

Re: Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade
I have gone every year since I was a kid. Wont be going this year because my daughter is too young but once she can understand, I will be back. I LOVE IT! Its exhausting and usually freezing (I dont think its going to be too bad this year). We stand right across from Macys so we get there early and leave later than most but its one of the best memories of my life!

Re: Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade
When we were young I think we went a few times. But my uncle worked in the city and his building was on the parade route, so we would be all comfortable in the building and were able to see everything since there were no pushy people in our way.
I don't think I would enjoy it standing out in the cold. But I hate crowds like that, so that's just me.

This year looks like it is going to be nice. 54 here on the island so it should be around 60 in NYC. Not too bad to stand outside for awhile.

Re: Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade
I love it, that is thanksgiving to me. We had a few lucky years, and DH got spoiled with grandstand seats. Other then that, we go uptown near the park. It starts early up there and finishes at a good time to still get home quick. I think with Santa passing, its the perfect way to bring in Christmas.
I love seeing the Sesame Street float every year...never gets old, they are such old school celebs to me. I will miss the parade this year more then the turkey/family scene

2x times.
that was enough for a lifetime.
I enjoy sitting on my couch in my robe and fluffy slippers and watching on TV.

Re: Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade
My best friends dad works in the building facing herald square and macy's so every year we stay in the building (where its warm) and watch the parade and get to see all the performances...very cool. There is also a balcony outside the window, so on occasion we stand out there if its not too cold. Last year, we yelled to the Rockettes and they waved to us! Cheesy, but kind of cool!!!
