mad about first appointment!
here's my question/vent - i called and made my first appt and then only thing that they had i would be just shy of 10 weeks..... i thought that was too long to wait but took it anyway ---
i thought it was because i needed a late afternoon appt - so i called back and said i can come any day - any time.... aso i tried calling all week during my lunch hour etc, and they would never pick up - kept going into the voicemail - being put on hold forever....
finally got thru today and i was told they had nothing at all and then the woman who answered the phone said 10 weeks is 2 weeks later than we would like to see you -- you should have called earlier to make an appt -- ugggg. i called the day that i got my BFP.....
i asked if they could call me if they had a cancellation and she said no - i can call back every day and check if i like..... (cause its such an easy task)
so my question is - is 10 weeks too late - should i look around for another place - im nervous about the level of care since i just started and its a problem.....
sorry so long but any feedback would be great!

Re: mad about first appointment!
I am not sure when exactly my first appointment was but I believe it was 9w4d. They did tell me they wanted me in before my 11th week. If you arent comfortable with them already, you may want to think about changing. You end up going so frequently and if you have questions, can you get thru?

I agree with Fran - you need to feel confident and comfortable with your doc and the office. After getting pregnant I learned that my doc makes her preggos a priority. When I went for regular appts there were never any late nights but boom I got preggo and they bend over backwards to get me in and see me later in the day.
My first appt was at 7 weeks since that was my docs preference and they had no problem scheduling it 5 weeks in advance.
Good Luck!

Good Luck! ITA. If they are giving you flack about not calling early enough & you called at the BFP, then they need to make your appointment as per when they want to see you. It is not like you procrastinated. I would definitely seek another Dr.

im beginning to think that i def need to see someone else - its just hard because i have been going there since i was 15 - and my mom has been going there forever as well - this was the practice that delivered me! and i like the drs - its just the "practice" that is driving me nuts!

Re: mad about first appointment!
Unacceptable I bet I know which practice it is. Do they happen to call and give you automated messages about an appointment you have? I have a wonderful OB in Suffolk(both men) Let me know if you want the info.

Re: mad about first appointment!
When I got a BFP, I changed my Gyn. I hated the place I used to go. It was a factory and the wait was just obsurd. I hated being treated like a number only there so I knew I would change. I know you like the docs but alot of the interaction you have will be with the office staff too so if its no good, its better to change. It will be a long 9 months if you dont!!! Good Luck

Re: mad about first appointment!
Wow, that would totally piss me off. In fact, I don't know that I would want to work with that dr and that office if this is how hard it is going to be to get an appt.

Re: mad about first appointment!
I'd be really annoyed at that. If I didn't LOVE the place or the Dr., I'd probably go somewhere else to be seen sooner. I'd definitely want to be seen before 10 weeks to confirm the pg, get my vitamins (folic & prenatal) and make sure my blood levels are safe. You never know, you may fall in love w/a new Dr.

Re: mad about first appointment!
I think 10 weeks is fine, but I would not be happy about the way they are treating you.
If they are that busy, you may have problems getting appts for the future too. I would think about going somewhere else, personally....

Re: mad about first appointment!
My doc saw me at 4 weeks and made me feel very comfortable (then again I've been seeing him for the past 10 years). He scheduled me for some blood work, a sono at 9 weeks and another visit at 9 weeks. Then he said he wants to see me every 4 weeks...

Re: mad about first appointment!
My doctors office didn't want to see me untill 12 weeks. I had no idea when my last period was so we gussed. They did a dating ultrasound at my first appointment and I was 10 weeks 3 days. I don't think its too late.

Re: mad about first appointment!
I think 10 wks will be fine, I know you're disappointed & would like to go sooner, but my dr. too said we like to set the first appt between 8 & 10 weeks. It should be fine & by then you'll be able to see your little bean on the sonogram.

Re: mad about first appointment!
I went at 10 weeks for my first and 8 for my second.
I don't think there is anything wrong with that, but if you don't have a good feeling about the practice - than I would look for somwone else. It's not a big deal to change at this point.
Also, when you are pregnant, appointments are not really in depth (like PAP/annuals), so that's why it should be very easy to get an appoint.

Re: mad about first appointment!
I changed my doctor, but for a different reason. You need to be comfortable and confident and that's simply the bottom line. If they want to see you at 8 weeks, they should have allowed for such in their scheduling. I saw my first dr. at 5.5 weeks. They said nothing about too early or too late. When I changed offices, I called on a Wednesday maybe and had an appt for the Thursday the following week, and it's an insanely busy practice.
eta-if they can't fit you in for another 4-6 weeks for your first appt [based on when you got the BFP], are you going to have to wait that long for each monthly visit as well? what about when you need to be seen every 2 weeks and every week? based on their behavior, you would need to schedule all of them NOW.

i am so excited..... i cant wait to go -- im so nervous because i feel like i need more confirmation besides the 5 hpt i've taken!

Re: mad about first appointment!
Well, before getting pregnant I had scheduled my well woman exam with my obgyn. It ended up that I was 5 weeks pg at the time but my obgyn did not give me any sort of pg exams. He did have me schedule my blood tests. I had my first internal u/s and my first pg exam when I was 9 weeks pg.
