Sorry, I think that's embarrassing on her part. You put a blanket over yourself and the baby. That's my opinion.

Posted by ThusSpokeLaLolita its one thing to breastfeed in public and one thing to call attention to yourself while doing so. its like she wants a show or something.
she shoudl really be a bit more discreet.
thats all the world needs is an 8 -13 old boy to walk by and see.
I apologize, but I must respectfully disagree with you here.
I don't think she was looking for a show. I think she wanted to feed her kid and didn't really care who saw her doing it.
I breastfed both my children. And I did it in public whenever they happened to be hungry. I was far more discreet - but only because it made me feel more comfortable. Comfortable mommy = better breast milk flow.
And as to the 8-13 year old boy walking by... I am sure that you meant that to be facetious - but really - what would be wrong with that? I think it would do a world of good if more kids really understand that breasts were not merely playthings attached to a woman's body. Any mother who lets her kid open a National Geographic magazine will see FAR more than what this woman showed!
I don't really understand the concern with having an 8-13 y/o boy walk by a woman who is breastfeeding her child. I would think that is an easier scenario for the parent to explain to their son than the objectification of women on a daily basis in magazines, on television and just in society in general.

Re: Maggie Gyllenhaal Boldly Breastfeeds
the only way to break this cycle of thinking our breasts in a purely sexual manner is if we educate our children on what breasts are for. If an 8-13 y/o boy walked by and saw, so be it. Then he can see what a mom is doing for her baby!!
