Re: Magical Migraine Cures?
Posted by AndreaLMT
I have tried everything under the sun for migraines. The only thing that helps me is the preventative drug Topamax. I just went back on it this week after being off it almost a year (pregnancy). Excedrin Migraine takes a bit of the edge off for me, but I still have a terrible migraine with it. Imitrex does nothing but give me the shakes and I still have the migraine. I hope you find something that works for you!
ummm how much do you know about topomax ???? it has some pretty bad side effects -

SERIOUSLY!!!! I was on it for a little over a month and begged my Doctor to take me off of it. I was losing it! Every side effect possible...I had. The Doctor told me I should have been over the side effects by then. Oh, the only side effect I didn't get...the weight loss.
But I would assume AndreaLMT doesn't get the side effects if she's recommending it. (You're so lucky!)

yes she is very lucky - i was part of the initial drug trial for topomax ( without me knowing it was a drug trial - *@%@$# doctor ) and i got really sick from it - they now know topomax can cause a condition called intercranial hypertension ( which i now have and wouldnt wish on my worst enemy) which is extreamly painful. there is no cure or decent treatment for it either. i would much rather have the migraines back thank you. at least those didnt leave me laying on the floor in tears wishing i could split my skull open.
i am glad you arent having the side effects but topomax can cause really serious side effects. there are other meds you can take for migraines - i would be sure to talk to your doctor about the pros and cons of topomax before you take it.

Re: Magical Migraine Cures?
Believe it or not I was told by my docotor that certian foods can trigger a migraine. ( Onions, hard cheeses, etc.) As soon as I feel one coming on I take Excederin. I heard but do not know if it is true that Excederin and excederin migraine is the same stuff it is endorsed to get rid of migrianes. I will have to look next time I am at Walgreens. I also put ice on my head, and lay down in a quiet room. Hope u feel better soon.
