mailboxes for classroom?

I want to set up mailboxes in my classroom for my kids. I think this will be a good way to get organized so whenever I need to hand something out (graded hw/quizes, etc) I can just have my para put it in their boxes in the afternoon.

I tried looking online but only found REALLY expensive ones! I inquired about this in my school last year and it's not something they can provide. Does anyone know where I can get something like that for not too much $$?

Have you tried all the websites, like Island School and Art, LLWeans, and Really Good Stuff? <----their prices are *somewhat* reasonable. Or, what about like Staples or Office Max maybe? Good luck and HTH!

Re: mailboxes for classroom?

I invested in 2 literarure sorters from Sam's club 3 years go. It's still in good shape but some of the shelf clips ar breaking (plastic)
Going to try glueing the shelves into place for this year

I've seen co-workers use both cardboard and plastic shoe organizers

I think mailboxes are an absolute necessity also if you have an old enough grade, have a student sort hw and memos into them before the end of the day as a class job.

Thanks to both of you! Chat Icon

I did look on those websites and found things but they seemed a bit pricey, and anything I did find cheaper on other sites had reviews that they were flimsy...... I can deal with a little flimsy though, the kids will just use them to take assignments out of them, it's not like they'll be sitting on the thing and tossing it aroujnd.. or at least I hope not! Arieschick- I love that shoe organizer idea!!!! Chat Icon I will definitely keep that in mind!!!!! Chat Icon If anything, it will look as though I am promoting creativity when the administrators come around! I mean it! I like to have things in the room to give it some personality!

Everyone else, keep the ideas flowing! Also, a next hunt......... where can I get a small area rug for the reading corner? Chat Icon I tried Target but had absolutely no luck! Chat Icon

Re: mailboxes for classroom?

about 6 years ago, I had bought ones (cardboard ones) from staples. They were pretty cheap.

I saw some creative homemade versions over my passings. For instance, take 2 liter soda bottles and cut off the end. You then take however many you need and tape them together.

Another person went to the liquor store and got those boxes. They have the dividers in them. Cover with paper and decorate.

I use a shoe organizer from Target. I think I sent $30on it. It is the white one p a few posts ahead of mine. It is small enough that it is not overwhelming on my side shelf.

I got one at Educational Warehouse but you have to fold the papers in half to get them in. My friend at work made hers out of milk cartons.

I use these stacked on top of each other. They work REALLY well!

Re: mailboxes for classroom?

Thank you SO MUCH everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I plan on checking out the shoe racks and those black stackable ones. And if those don't seem doable for me I'll give those other creative suggestions a try, so thank you!! Chat Icon

Aries- thanks for the rug recs- Sears.com has so many nice ones too but I want to do some price comparisons before I buy anything. I'll have to check out those stores, hopefully I'll find luck at Walmart- they tend to be cheap Chat Icon

Ahh I can't believe I am getting a clear idea of how I plan on decorating my classroom, this is HORRIBLE!!!!!!!! I feel like I can smell the school year!!! AKA, my alarm clock that will soon be waking me up at 6am ........ and the lunch on my desk that will be interrupted by a student who forgot their lunch money in their school bag....... Yes, the school year is coming.

Chat Icon Here's to the next 4 weeks! Better enjoy them! Chat Icon
