Technically they are not allowed to accept cash gifts (other than gift cards $20 or less).

Can they accept checks? No. They're prohibited by federal regulations from accepting monetary tips, so I don't think many would want a check with a paper trail...
They are allowed to receive gifts up to $20 in value.

Oops. She took the envelope. I wrote it out to cash - so hopefully she won't have any issues cashing it.

hmm good question, I give 20 in cash b/c I read somewhere years ago that was the limit they are allowed to receive in money. So I gave mine 20 in cash and a box of Godiva chocolates.

I gave her a $40 check written to cash and she rang the bell with a thank you card and gave me a smooch. I guess there are ways around everything

I'm sure they have no problem accepting it But it is grounds for termination for accepting cash tips.

It's best to make the check out to the mailman. If you leave cash sometimes the carriers sub will take it and not get it to your regular mailman.
