Make it make sense
Can someone explain WHY a healthy 12 year old NEEDS to be vaccinated?
I’m just not understanding the logic.
Wasn’t the point of the vaccine to prevent hospitalization? These children have a 99% chance they won’t end up hospitalized. So why??
Make it make sense for me before I pack up and flee in the middle of the night.

As much sense it is to go and get tested for any illness when you have NO symptoms.
Sorry but this is getting all insane. Keep voting in these people though

Make it make sense
It really doesn't.
At one point it was determined that unvaccinated people were the ones spreading Delta so they should be vaccinated but, now everyone is spreading Delta so there's that. And now Mu is here too which is vaccine resistent?
I'm thinking possibly so that if more people are vaccinated the virus won't mutate any further? Which is also difficult as many countries aren't vaccinating at the same rate as the US so well, unless we close our borders...
For last week, there were 252k new youth cases of COVID, 2,400 people were hospitalized.

There is nothing that anyone can say that will make it make sense to you and some of the others in this and similar posts because you don’t WANT it to make sense. The Associate Professor of Pediatrics at Columbia University Irving Medical Center, HSS, the CDC, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Pediatrician-in-Chief of le Bonheur Children’s Hospital in Memphis, and other pediatric healthcare professionals have all spoken out about increases in pediatric cases and hospitalizations this week.
Virgin Mary could come down from the heavens and give you the same information and she would also be accused of padding the numbers, fear mongering and trying controlling the population.
Please stop posting the same thing over and over. Just move down south where everything will make sense to you.

Re: Make it make sense
Honestly, I don't know why anyone needs to continue to have this SAME EXACT conversation over and over and over and over again. How many threads need to be started to talk about the SAME EXACT thing? This vaccine conversation is so damn redundant, how many different ways does one need to state their position on the matter and then beat it to death for 12 pages? Is there nothing else in life worth focusing attention and time on?
If you don't want yourself and/or your kids to be vaccinated then don't get vaccinated. End of story. What else needs to be said? Why does anyone need constant reassurance from strangers regarding their decision?
If you're all so secure in your decision to forgo the vaccine then why on earth do you need to constantly talk about it day in and day out? COVID, masks and vaccines seem to be consuming some people's lives. Just do you, keep it to yourself and move on with more productive things. Do some of you really and truly spend this much time and energy worrying about these things?

Because we are concerned they are going to FORCE it on our children. I am 100% secure in my decisions. I just don't want a decision being FORCED upon my child.
I'd love to just do me. That's all I want.
Unfortunealty it's not as simple as if you don't want to vaccinate your kids, don't. They are looking to force it. That is what this thread is all about.

I totally get your position and 100% support your decision. In fact, I have NOT vaccinated my almost 13 year old DD and don't plan to even though DH and I are vaccinated. So I very much see your point. I just feel like it's the SAME exact thread and the SAME exact conversation over and over and over on here. There is nothing new to say, everyone is repeating themselves and it won't change the course of any of this. Nor will it change anyone's mind.
If the issue of mandates is that important to someone then get out there and be an activist, fight for no mandates. Everyone whining on LIF is a pointless waste of time.

Honestly if this was a case of you do you, vaccinate your kids or don't, I wouldn't have a word to say. I don't care what anyone else does with their kids or themselves These threads are being commented on because parents are scared to death this vaccine will be forced on their kids. With no real backing as to why. Of course people are going to be upset.

I know this is super hard for you but *TRY* having an adult conversation instead of posting nonsense comments that serve no purpose. Your schtick is getting so old on here.

This.
Even with the increase in pediatric cases this past week, there is still a 1% hospitalization rate.

I just want to point out that the same thing was said over and over to you and a bunch of others when you started thread after thread complaining about Trump before and after he was first elected. Constant posts about how millions were going to die without healthcare. Over and over and over. And then constant posts for 4 years about how awful he was. Sometimes, when you are in a sh*tty situation, you just want to talk about it ad nauseum.

Although the difference in the topics may be small, there are differences. There is new news coming out each and every day, in particular that schools are starting to enforce covid vaccine mandates. I know that you don't want to talk about it, but others do. There is no right or wrong here. If people want to discuss it until the cows come home, and you don't want to read it, just don't open the thread. Why let it bother you enough to even post it?

I've reached out to politicians, I have spoken to friends to alert them this could happen (many don't think it will), I did miss the protest earlier this week in front of our State Senator's office (but it wasn't really publicized).
This is causing me a great deal of stress and I feel like it's a different topic than the others. I'm trying to use all available avenues to get the best understanding I can as to why?

This is causing me a great deal of stress and I feel like it's a different topic than the others. I'm trying to use all available avenues to get the best understanding I can as to why?
Exactly. It's possible to be out there fighting for something and still come her and discuss it with others who feel the same way It may even be helpful to raise awareness of the topic and brainstorm ideas on how to fight it- I know some here have fought things like this already and they can be a great resource to us with ideas, etc

But NOTHING you or anyone is saying is NEW. You're all repeating yourselves over and over again, the only difference if the thread's name is changed. And here's the thing, if it gets mandated it's going to happen whether you or anyone else rails all day long against it on LIF.
Not enough waste of time though for others to post about how it is a waste of people’s time. Gotcha.
She is scared as well as others and think they should not just be pushed aside because it has been discussed before.

The difference being there were new topics to discuss regarding Trump over 4 years. In this case, you're all just saying the SAME thing constantly. We get it. You don't want the vaccine and you don't want your kids to have the vaccine. Repeating the same stance thread after thread won't change anything. Get out there and fight if the issue is so important.

I think when it comes to situations that require action *most* people just sit back and complain rather than do anything useful. Not "all" people but most.
LIF is not the best avenue to get clarity on anything. For the most part, this is all speculation and personal opinion along with a healthy dose of fear. So far, there has been absolutely NO chatter whatsoever in my district regarding mandating the vaccine and I think *most* districts are likely the same. I understand your stress over it (and respect your position) but I think more likely than not, public schools will shy away from any mandates at this time.

I don't believe that my district itself will mandate.
My concerns lie with the state. The Governor mentioned she will try to find a way to mandate this for all school children and a bill has been introduced in the State Senate to mandate (and one has been or will be introduced in the State Assembly).

Exactly. This is not up to the individual districts. My districts had said no masks this year- until the state mandated it for them. The loss of religious exemptions for vaccines recently was not up to the individual districts- it comes from the state. At the end of the day what YOUR district or MY district wants means nothing. They have no say in it

Re: Make it make sense
Just like nobody was forcing anyone to read Trump’s tweets, nobody is forcing anyone to engage in LIF threads that they find repetetive.
Sometimes people like to vent to each other. Are we only supposed to have discussions about new topics?
I personally like these threads because I WANT to read opinions that are different than mine and I WANT to learn and understand both sides of an argument.
To answer the original poster’s question, there IS NOT a good or valid reason to MANDATE a shot but there are reasons. The answers are:
1. money 2. fear 3. control 4. money
Health is not on that list. Because:
For every rare case of a child having a serious reaction from covid, there is at least one child having a serious reaction from the shot. Oh, and it does not prevent transmission either.
