MAke the Free Address labels STOP!
OMg..I must have no exagerration like 30 different kinds.
I guess we have made a lot more charity donations this year then normal and they are sending them like everyday.
I feel bad, because some of them ask for donations and I JUST donated to them like a week ago so I cant, but I DONT need all these address labels!

Same here. Anyone's who can't take the time to figure out that my last name changed don't get money from me!! 
I have certain charities that I donate to because of personal reasons and I'm generous with them so I don't feel guilty about not responding to every "free gift" mailing I get.

I hate that. It's like if there are children starving in ethiopia or animals being abused, or you desperately need $$ for cancer resarch WHY OH WHY are you wasting money sending me address labels? Why not make really nice ones everyone wil want and "sell" them for a donation isntead of sending them so they wind up in the trash?
the WORST is when they say "one penny can make a difference" and send me a penny. if it makes such a difference, KEEP it and use it to feed people.

LOL, sorry ladies, I've been guilty of sending these to people. I work in fundraising. The reason we send them is because we make TONS of money from label mailings. When compared with mailings that don't have labels, the response rates don't even compare. If we try to replace the mailing with another tactic, people call in and ask for them. It's crazy. Labels are usually sent to people who have never given to the charity before, or low-dollar donors, to try to lure you in. We won't stop doing it until people stop donating. The 'guilt factor' works I guess. If you don't want them, call the nonprofit and ask to be put on the 'do not mail' list or be put on the national 'do not mail' list.

I understand the guilt factor, and if ti works, it works but it feels manipulative and get on my nerves.
For me, I'm more like to donate more if like for $25 you get amagazine subscription or something.

Here's the problem with the magazine in return for a donation. People tend to 'subscribe' to the magazine and give their yearly 'dues' to get their 'subscription' rather than becoming a long-term donor that upgrades the longer they are 'members' of an organization. There are also people that we call premium donors -- people that only give when they get something in return. We also have back-end premiums, where people give donations and in exchange for their gift, they get their 'prize' but they don't work as well as 'front end premiums' where they get their 'gift' up front. More info than you ever wanted to know, eh?

Actually, I find it interesting.
I'm surprised that the front end pizes do better. I mean, if I already have the labels I don't REALLY have to send you any money.

My Mom always used to say to me...NEVER order address labels. Just donate $5 to one charity and you'll get enough to last you a life time!

I just agreed to do a Nielsen survey online and they actually sent me the cash along with the instructions. I had the money before I did the survey. I thught that was cool... I figured it must work for them to continue to do it, but if it doens;t work, they can be out $100's on these mailings.

I signed up for something like that and got so much spam and no real cash offers, so I cancelled an hour after I signed up. If you know of legit things that you can actually make money on, do tell!

I don't mind them. But I get them from charities I have never donated to, so I wonder how they get my name. If the charities I AM donating to is giving out my info that would make me not want to donate anymore, no matter how good a cause it was.

When I was in HS I donated to Memorial Sloan Kettering....not even much...like $20...and I graduated HS in 96. My mom STILL recieves address labels for me at her house.
I wish they'd come here with this address and name! I hate handwriting my info on my bills!!

I wouldn't stop giving to a charity because they sold/bought/exchanged your name with another charity (or broker) unless you've specifically asked them not to, because, quite frankly, that's really the only way charities can grow their donorbase/membership. New members & donors are acquired from 'outside' lists and acquisition mailings are most frequently premium mailings (i.e. labels/cards). The only way we can further our mission is to send direct mail or to telemarket people. It's simple to be put on the national do not solicit list or to ask the charities you care about to stop sending you mailings. We all have "Do Not Solicit" codes in our databases. The problem is if we stopped sending requests for money ... well, you know what the problem would be. We're just trying to do our jobs and to further the mission of our organizations. Not all charities sell/exchange their lists, but it's up to you to tell your organization that you do not want your name rented/sold/leased/exchaged.
