Make up virgin
So, I never wear make up....Ever! I probably need it, but I think that I look like a clown with it on and I never pick the right ones for me. I am looking to possibly start to at least even my skin up as I approach the wrong side of 30 . A friend suggested going to MAC. Any other suggestions?

Make up virgin
I've start using physician formula bc I try to buy items without animal testing and have been happy.
I wont spend $$$$ for most of my make up. I have spend $$$$ on foundation but stopped that years ago. I had a bad reaction to MAC a few years ago, but I many that like it
I don't buy much make up myself. I am very basic...

Re: Make up virgin
My face is oily and I break out so I need something with good coverage. I use lancomes miracle tint (tient miracle).
For eye makeup I use whatever is the free gift or whatever color quad from cvs that I think is pretty. I have an olive complexion and dark brown eyes. Lately I gravitate towards beiges/Browns and purples.
I've been starting to explore blush. Not sure what color though so I guess I should visit Lancôme and have someone paint my face...
Mascara I use loreal voluminous

Re: Make up virgin
I always bought drugstore makeup and just kind of did the best I could. Never wore much make-up. For my 30th birthday, I told DH I wanted good make-up and knew it wouldn't be cheap as I literally had nothing. Made an appt at MAC for a weeknight when they were dead. The girl I had was so great and spent a long time with me. I told her I wanted simple but was worried with MAC because they are so dramatic and she assured me it was no problem. I left there looking and feeling like a million bucks. Got all new makeup (so I'm sure she was very happy ), and am now much more confident about putting on make-up.
I am 36 now and have noticed the older I get, the more I need a little more help (like I now put concealer under my eyes to hide my dark circles, etc.).
Oh, also wanted to add I have heard good things about Bare Minerals if you want to try there also.

Re: Make up virgin
I always wore drug store foundation and then earlier in the year I went and got color matched at Sephora. They give you a few different brands/formulas that fit your skin and will even send you hope with samples if you ask. I've got combo skin and I also use Lancome, it's got great texture:

I am 35 and or the past few years I have been reading blogs, browsing Pinterest, and checking reviews on makeupalley.com to figure out what would be best for my skin. Start with a good foundation and try different things till you find what you like. Ulta and Sephora both have great return policies so you can return anything that doesn't work for you.

I would start with a basic oil free BB cream like oils free garnier Then get yourself the urban decay basics eyeshadow as your "splurge" it's $29 not awful and easy to use for a makeup newbie For mascara drugstore ones are fine and work well, I recommend loreal voluminous it has a thin brush and doesn't clump For lips get maybelline baby lips, it's almost like Chapstick with a tint of color and lasts a long time YouTube tutorials they are very helpful

Re: Make up virgin
I used to only use drug store make up. 1. Because when I was single and living on my own, spending $50 on foundation just wasnt happening and 2. I was young and my skin looked flawless anyway.
But now, in my late 30's, I knew I needed a little more. Last year I went to Sephora and did their 1.5 hour make up lesson. Went to Roosevelt field. It was great. I learned a lot. From basics to advanced stuff. Learned about my skin and how it's not just the make up you put on, but the cleanser and products BEFORE the make up make a world of differnce.
Now I watch a lot of tutorials and try to follow along lol
The only thing I continue to buy at the drug store is my mascara. I love cover girl lash blast. Though I do use it with a primer I bought at Sephora

Re: Make up virgin
I wouldn't go to MAC. I would say get yourself a nice lightweight BB cream like Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue Gel cream. Invest in a nice neutral eye shadow palette like Too Faced Natural Eyes. A mascara that doesn't get clumpy, like Cover Girl clump crusher. And a pinky nude lipstick.

Agree 100% almost exactly what I said ;) MAC IMO is great but not for beginners

Re: Make up virgin
I would avoid MAC especially if you aren't going to wear makeup everyday. I would start watching some youtube videos and find some drugstore makeup that will work for you.
Here is a great video that is really basic.

Re: Make up virgin
LoL...Thanks all but I ended up going to MAC with my friend. I bought moisturizer, concealer, powder, blush, eyeshadow, eye liner, mascara and lip gloss. I have been ok with all of it except the mascara (which they gave me the wrong one, it was just the primer and it was drying white...I took it back and they gave me the regular). I even got a compliment yesterday :) . We will see how it goes when I go back to work, but it really didn't take me long to do!
