Makeup Application Advice - POST YOURS HERE
I thought it might be fun if everyone would post their most effective application tips.
Lord knows I can really use some advice on eye shadow application! no matter how much I play around, I can't seem to get it the way I want it. Specifically, I need help with blending and using different shadows on the lids/contours. I love how some people use a highlighter right under the brow bone with multiple colors on their lids. Any advice for me?

ok, I'll start
I find that the best way to apply mascara is to "wiggle" the lashes in the brush by moving the wand left to right.

I'm no expert, but I've always been taught to use a very light shade all over the lid to start. Then a medium shade up to right above the crease. And then use the darkest shade inside the crease and also you can use this shade as an eyeliner with a brush.

Re: Makeup Application Advice - POST YOURS HERE
I was told to dab eyeshadow on, not smear it. It makes the color last longer.
I also do a light base color and do a v in the corner with a darker shadow.
The girl at Laura Mercier taught me a cool way to put on eyeliner on your top lid. Instead of putting it on the top side of your eyelashes (on your lid itself), do it from underneath. Kinda like riming the inside on the bottom, but you do it on top. All you do is look up and pull your lid up and line in there.

I'll give that a try, but I am pretty sure I've tried this already and it didn't come out right.

I don't know if they still do it, but Aveda in Soho gave a makeup lesson. It was fun. You got your own train case full of makeup and the instructor went through all the basics.

Re: Makeup Application Advice - POST YOURS HERE
Okay, don't laugh, but here's my lip tip.
Start wtih slightly balmed lips.
Use the lip liner brush and line and fill the lips.
Then use a lip brush to even out the lip liner.
Then apply lipstick using the lip brush.
Then take a piece of toilet paper and put it over your lips.
Use the lip brush to brush the toilet paper. This takes off just enough extra lipstick.
You can repeat with a second layer.

This is my tip as well. Also very minimal makeup for me. I like to be as natural as possible.

Re: Makeup Application Advice - POST YOURS HERE
do your eyemake-up first, then blush b/c you always get the eyeshadow powder on your cheeks
also - when your eyeliner smears under your eye, don't press down hard with your figure and wipe across from nose to ear-- that causes undereye wrinkles, blot gently with a tissue

Yup, this is a great one!
Another one...
Always use some sort of primer (I like Benefit's FY...Eye) on your lids before shadow...
HUGE difference!!
ETA- A good eyelash curler (warmed slightly with a blowdryer ) works wonders...I prefer Shiseido or Shu Uemura
Also, an eyelash comb...I found the metal tooth ones work best

Do your makeup in natural light! My bathroom is in the middle of my house with no indows. I learned real quick to do it in a different room!

Re: Makeup Application Advice - POST YOURS HERE
I have a great eyeshadow set from clinique. It has a deep brown (which I put only on the lid) a medium brown (which I put from the lid to almost the brow) and a light off white (which I ut just below the brow) I usually take my fingers and blend them together - but I bet a nice big brush would be better

Re: Makeup Application Advice - POST YOURS HERE
I just heard somewhere that if you plan on wearing lipstick - put that on first then do your blush because you may not need as much I tried it and I definitely put on less blush

Use an oil based cream (like nivea) to remove makeup when you make an application booboo or if you put too much blush on.

Re: Makeup Application Advice - POST YOURS HERE
Invest in makeup brushes...good quality ones! They last for ages if you clean them at least once a month. I prefer MAC.
Makeup brushes - foundation, blush, eyeshadow - worth the investment as it applies the makeup evenly!
THROW away the sponges and stop using your fingers!

Re: Makeup Application Advice - POST YOURS HERE
I have to disagree with ChrissynRicky...I use a sponge and my fingers, despite having foundation brushes. (I am picky about the materials of my sponges though.)
*I also bend my mascara wands as soon as I get them to make application easier (I'm also picky about the type of brush as well.)
*I use an old mascara wand/brush for my brows (obviously you clean it when you dispose of an old mascara.)

THROW away the sponges and stop using your fingers! why? a lot of makeup artists use sponges to apply tinted moisturizers and spray foundation.
also, cream eye shadows should be applied with your finger.
