Making a One Family into a Two family - Queens.
Does anyone know where I can look to see if our home can be made into a legal two family in Queens? Thanks so much! I am going to have a lot of questions on here soon

I work in civil engineering and am familiar with the procedures, however I have never done any work in Queens (I am Upstate). The procedures will vary depending on the municipality you live in. The first thing I would do is call the Zoning Board to find out if it is legal in the district/zone you live in.
They can also give you the zoning regulations which will tell you the requirements of the zone. They can send you to the proper places to find out about codes for residential dwellings. You may have to go before the planning board with plans of the renovation (which will probably have to be stamped by a licensed professional). Then you will have to have the apt. inspected and obtain a C.O. for occupancy.
Here is a link to a webiste with zoning information
