I do it at home as well. You need video/audio cables from the output of the VCR to go into the input of the DVD-R. Make sure the correct input is chosen on the DVD-R. Press PLAY on VCR, press REC on DVD-R. When it's done, add a title, and close the disk if you're done.
That's pretty much it...

Hate to sound stupid but what exactly is a video/audio cable (what does it look like)? I'm the computer person in the house & DH leaves all the tech stuff to me.
Also can you watch it while recording?

I used the generic term, because it depends on what kind you have on your VCR and DVD-R. Usually, though, it's RCA cables, or Composite cables. 3 wires. One red, one white, and one yellow.
Best Buy, Circuit City, Sears, PC Richards, Staples, etc all have them in various lengths.
Yes, you can watch what you are recording. It's almost a necessity, so you know when to stop the recording, since often either the VCR is longer than the DVD, or vice-versa.

OK, thanks! that is the cable I thought it was. I think I have a few around. One of these days I will start doing this & get rid of all these videos.
