Making a veggie and dip platter
I was requested to bring one for easter and rather than buy one, I'd rather make my own since I have no idea if they wash the veggies and I'm a stickler for that.
Anyway, I'm thinking carrots, celery, peppers and brocolli. I know the first 3 are raw, but do you cook the brocolli or is it also raw?
And what dip do you like with your vegetables?

Re: Making a veggie and dip platter
The veggies sound great! I usually wash the broccoli and serve it raw. Cucumber slices are popular too.
As for dip, I like making onion dip by mixing a tub of sour cream with Lipton onion soup mix. Or, sometimes I'll make a ranch dip by mixing sour cream with a packet of Hidden Valley ranch mix. It's quick and yummy

Re: Making a veggie and dip platter
Or spinach dip is very popular.
1 pt of sour cream 1 packet of Knorr vegetable mix 10 oz of frozen spinach thawed and squeezed out. Some people add water chestnuts and mayo, but I don't. mix and leave in the fridge for 2 hours-24 hours.
I would cook the broccoli, but only for 3 minutes or so.

I love either onion dip or spinach dip.
Don't cook the broccoli!
I usually do baby carrots, broccoli, cucumber, cherry tomatoes, red peppers

Re: Making a veggie and dip platter
I love to do snap peas (the ones form Costco are great!) and cucumer slices along w/ the others you posted. They're never in the pre packed platters so they usually go fast. I love ranch dip (T. Marzetti makes a great one) & spinach dip (I make the Knorr one, YUM!)

Re: Making a veggie and dip platter
Here's what I do
cucumbers, tomato, broccoli, cauliflower, grn/red/yellow peppers, carrots
I do a homemade dilly dip...i'll get a recipe if you want but I just eye ball it with the dill....FM if you want more info or as they said the hidden valley ranch is nice, ranch dressing or even Italian is good. All veggies should be raw, clean and cut up except tomatoes unless you're doing something bigger then a cherry tomato

I like to add sticks of Fennel also, fennel is fantastic with hummus or dip.

I love a light ranch dressing - Hidden Valley is great. Veggies I use are cukes, tomatoes, peppers, broccoli, cauliflower, celery, carrots, mushrooms... Love my veggies!
Oh yeah...all veggies are raw.

Re: Making a veggie and dip platter
My favorites on veggie platters are pea pods/sugar snapped peas (don't know the difference ) YUM-- if you're going to buy those, get them at Costco, they're a fortune in the grocery store, and you get a bag twice the size for the same price at Costco and they're delicious!

Re: Making a veggie and dip platter
I sometimes use 1/2 a pkg of the Knoor vegetable dip mix and 1/2 a pkg of the onion dip mix. It gives it a bit more flavor. The water chestnuts are a nice addition. (Or you can just buy the container of spinach dip from Costco. It is yummy, and nobody will know it isn't homemade -- I've passed it off as my own before )
Also, I usually cook the broccoli for like a minute or two and then cool it real quickly in cold water. This makes it a nice green color and it makes it a bit easier to chew.

Re: Making a veggie and dip platter
I make a great dip for veggies. It's a recipe my aunt got many years ago.
FM if you like the sound of it and want exact measurements and I will post exact amts later.
Dill weed Parsley Dried Onion bits Mayo Sour Cream Lawry's Seasoned Salt
I LOVE this dip, it is the best dip I have ever had with veggies but you do have to like Dill.
I put all raw veggies on the tray. Celery Carrots Cucumbers baby tomatoes Cauliflower Broccoli mushrooms even olives work nicely if you want

Re: Making a veggie and dip platter
Okay, that was seriously really easy!!! I sliced cucumbers, rinsed tomatoes, halved celery stalks, peeled and quartered carrots, sliced peppers, did little broccoli florets and placed them all on a tray I got at Ikea with a little ramekin. There is a lot of food and it was NOT expensive to do, compared to the 19.99 trays I saw at the store and who knows if the veggies were washed which is my peeve. So thanks for help!
