We do a biMONTHLY mortgage payment automatically deducted from our checking account. We end up making one extra payment a year (shaving off 7 years of our 30 year mortgage). It works well for us because we really don't 'feel' the loss of the extra money this way. If you divide your mothly mortgage payment by two, then pay that amount twice a month, you end up making a whole extra payment because some months have more days than others.
