making the decision to move on to IVF?
How did you make the decision to move onto IVF (besides wanting a baby sooooo bad!)?
We keep going back and forth with our decision. We have an almost 3 year old son and we both want a sibing for him before the gap gets any larger. And we've been trying now for over 2 years. On the other hand we cant help but feel maybe we arent meant to have more than 1 child? Plus Im type that wont even take Tylenol for a headache until I absolutely have to so the thought of all those meds terrifies me. It took me well over a year to even try Clomid.

Re: making the decision to move on to IVF?
For us the decision was pretty much easy to move onto IVF. We've been married 7 years and no kids so we knew something was really wrong. Turns out DH has severe sperm issues and our only hope was IVF/ICSI or surgery to repair and wait to see if it works. I think you have to be ready in your heart and you will know. The biggest fear for me was the needles and all the meds but now I'm nearing the end and it wasn't bad at all....and I am the biggest chicken.
Have you tried IUI yet? I'm not sure of your issues but a lot of people try IUI first because it's less invasisve and less expensive than IVF. Good Luck to you!

Re: making the decision to move on to IVF?
Just as Jacquie said...we knew we were going to have problems. My age and irregularity. We started off with IUI's and have moved onto IVF. You should consult with your OB-GYN first and start investigating. Some simple procedures are Semen Analysis for DH, HSG and/or water sono for yourself, plus bloodwork. These things can help you find out if and what your problems are. Then you can make an informed decision as to how you want to proceed.

Re: making the decision to move on to IVF?
We've gone through all testing and I was dx with PCOS. We've done 3 IUI's and 6 rounds of clomid. More recently we've just been trying on our own trying to decide what to do. Its a very difficult decisoin for us probably we already have 1 blessing.

Re: making the decision to move on to IVF?
PCOS is one of the most easily resolved issues through IVF. If I were you, I would check into your insurance policies, see what you are covered for and have a complete workup done.

Re: making the decision to move on to IVF?
Its not an easy decision. We have been TTC for almost 2 years, and after our 2nd IUI with clomid, had an ectopic. RE said that due to this we would be better off doing IVF. Good Luck!

Re: making the decision to move on to IVF?
For us the decision was pretty easy. We had been ttc for 1 1/2 years without any luck. After meeting with our RE, we decided that ivf was our best chance at getting pg. When we heard that, our decision was pretty much made for us.

I'm sorry about your diagnosis but from my understanding PCOS patients respond very well to IVF. If I'm not mistaken Gerty has PCOS and she responded very well and I have PCO and have responded very well. Whatever journey you choose I wish you the best. I think the worst part is actually making the decision then after that everything seems to fly by.
