Making Your Own Baby Wipes?

Has anyone done this? Was it cost effective? Got a good recipe to share?

Re: Making Your Own Baby Wipes?

I havent cause Im lazy, but I read this in the 1000 baby bargains book and found the "Recipe" online

Here ya go.

If you do it, let me know how it turns out.

Recipe: Make Your Own Baby Wipes

Baby Wipes

Make your own baby wipes. You need:

1 roll of Bounty paper towels

2-1/4 cups of water,

2 Tbsp. Baby bath or shampoo

1 Tbsp of Baby oil

Cut the roll of towels in half (an electric knife works well) and remove the cardboard center. Mix all liquid ingredients together, put towels in a container (an old wipes container or a round Rubbermaid container works well) and pour the liquid over top of the towels. When ready to use, pull the towels from the center. (This tip was submitted by many of our readers)

Wet Ones

Homemade wet-ones: Cut a roll of paper towels (Bounty works best) in half with electric knife, if possible. Remove cardboard tube. Make solution of 2 cups water, 2 tablespoons of baby bath, and 2 tablespoons of baby oil in a container large enough to hold the half roll of paper towel. Submerge half roll into solution. It will eventually soak up all the solution. Pull the wet ones from the center of the tube. Close with a tight fitting lid. I used a Rubbermaid container. If you need to put them in a diaper bag, just pull out a few and fold them to fit a smaller store bought container. Last a long time. Plus you still have the other half of the roll for your next batch!

Cool thanks! I'm going to try it! I think Viva is cheaper than Bounty though, so I'm going to try that.

Re: Making Your Own Baby Wipes?

Well, I did it, but it was a PITA without an electric knife, which I don't have. Also, the half roll is still too big for the standard wipe container, so I cut them in half again. It seems like there is too much liquid since an entire half roll wouldn't fit in there, but they are super thick and smell great. I think they are actually thicker than the Huggies wipes. I don't know if I'll make them again though unless I can find a cheap electric knife since cutting the roll in half took FOREVER.

Oh, and I got an 8 pack of Viva at CVS on sale for $6.99 and then you get $2 ECB on top of that (their ad is worded wrong). I had some other coupons so I paid about $1 and some change for the entire back and a small thing of baby oil.

Re: Making Your Own Baby Wipes?

...and I just realized I'm a moron. I cut the towels in half length wise Chat Icon No wonder they wouldn't fit!! I must go try this again Chat Icon

I did it the right way and it was a million times easier! Plus you can just pull the wipes up from the center like the instructions said, but I had no idea how that was possible with the way I cut them at first! I put them in a round container. Super easy!
