There was another story today of a mom in AL who forgot her 5 week old in a car for a half hour before someone spotted the baby and police were able to get her out. It's never ending.

OK this is getting out of control now.

I was one of the ones who said a few threads ago that I could understand this being a freak accident, but now it's every day, sometimes several times a day IN THE MEDIA so people should be insanely aware by now.

Re: Man leaves 2 year old in car to shopping in Huntington.

I heard something especially troubling on the radio yesterday , apparently 30-40 of these incidents occur on a yearly basis. Meaning that 30-40 kids per year either die or are injured in this manner. Usually, the cases are deemed "accidental" and prosecution does not occur. Not sure if this is accurate, but this is definitely what an "expert" said.

Yes, this. My goodness, I just went shopping and I wouldn't even leave my son in the car while I loaded my groceries in the trunk - it's just too hot. Come on people, BE AWARE!

It's not happening any more than normal......it's just a hot topic on the news. I have a family member that works for the OCFS and he says it happens all the time.

I don't understand how this keeps happening either!! It's common sense. PLUS it's all over the news.

Even if you support leaving your child in the store to shop and think it's an awesome thing to do where is the common sense when it's the hottest day ever! And humid and sunny too. Like don't YOU realized when entering your car before you turn it on how stifling it is? I feel sick for these children and the fear they must feel being alone and hot and getting to the point of unresponsive.

I swear to god if I ever see this I will personally smash the window. I am thinking about putting a crow bar in my car now.

His defense is he didn't know the child was in the car. Someone else put her there and and didn't tell him.Chat Icon Chat Icon

Yes, I read his parents were with them. So how could they not know she was in the car? And why weren't the parents charged too? Any adult who knew the child was in the car and left her there should be charged, regardless if they were the driver or parent of the child. I really can't wrap brain around 3 adults leaving that poor girl in the car for that long.

I did hear that. But I don't know if they were all in the same car.
But according to yesterdays article he eventually admitted to leaving her there.
Guess he forgot he mentioned that to the cops.

Has anyone heard how the child is doing? The report I heard said she was lethargic and not talking when police took her out of the car. I have been so upset over this and praying she didn't suffer any permanent damage. Chat Icon

This. I also think that once something like this is all over the media unstable people start to get ideas or act on ideas that they may not normally have. Just like school shootings and all the other awful things we keep hearing about way too often.

She was taken to the hospital and is supposedly doing much better. Just goes to show what 20 minutes can do. When will people learn.

Ugh! People are more concerned about updating their facebook page, reading that text or looking for the best coupon, checking in on foursquare (which I do) than paying attention to the world around them.

I see so many parents just oblivious to their kids 2 feet from them, I can totally see them forgetting them in a car. Out of sight, out of mind is easy when they voluntarily go out of 'sight'.

This me me me me society has taken a twisted turn when the kids are ignored. :(

She was released to her mother. Who I assume is "with" the father being that they're from Maryland and were all in NY together. So one can assume she'll be reunited with her father once he is released. Makes me sick.

I swear to god from now on I am checking parking lots and cars for children. And I will smash the window open AS I call police. May their smashed window be another reminder that they're A holes.

In that light (and totally serious - you go girl) Just remember to break the front window and not the windows in the back to reduce the glass splatter..

Is it sad I want to just carry a sledgehammer in my car for this reason? It would take too long to get to my tire iron.
