Man loses balance, falls to his death after game at Shea

NEW YORK (CNN) -- A man fell to his death after a baseball game between the New York Mets and Washington Nationals at Shea Stadium on Tuesday night, police said.

The man was sliding down an escalator as fans left the stadium when he lost his balance and fell four stories at about 10 p.m., the New York Police Department said in a statement.

He died about 25 minutes later at Booth Memorial Hospital.

Police identified the man as 36-year-old Antonio Nararainsami of Brooklyn.

They said they are investigating the death as an accident.

Chat Icon I heard about this on the news this morning. So sad.

But they also reported they are investigating whether or not he was trying to slide down the railing! Chat Icon

sliding down the escalator - as in - sitting on the railing and going down? i'm sorry, but that is so stupid. especially if there are 10 stories beneath you.

Very, very sad. His two children watched him fall. According to the news he wasn't drinking or fooling around. He turned around on the escalator to talk to his daughter and lost his balance. Chat Icon

I heard he was trying to slide down the railing too.
I don't see how it could have happened any other way - how could someone lose their balance and fall over the side of the escalator? Maybe fall down the steps, but tumble over the side?

Re: Man loses balance, falls to his death after game at Shea

i didnt read that he was trying to slide down it. i read that the escalator was not moving, that he was walking down the escalator steps. if he WAS trying to slide down, then he mustve sat up on the handrail and somehow fell backwards down onto the concrete.

i'm sure the investgation will reveal what really happened.

I hate to sound like a pacifist but you don't fall like that by just turning around, the fam is prob going to deny bc they want to sue. of course I was not there but I wouldn't be surprised if I was on the right path Chat Icon

One of my clients was at the game, I gave her the tickets. I talked to her today and she saw the whole thing. She said he was sliding down the escalator railing.

She said it was the most horrifying thing she ever saw. She said that the wife and kids were besides themselves. Chat Icon

I feel so bad for his family, esp to have watched it happen!!! Chat Icon

But really, grown adults (esp those who are parents) should know better than to slide down the railing of an escalator.
